Apple killed the Camera Roll to the horror of many iPhotogs with the release of iOS 8.1, but the first iOS 8.1 beta shows the company has had a change of heart is open to bringing it back, but not for everyone.
iOS 8.1 beta 1 allows users to resurrect the classic Camera Roll album after it was replaced by the Recently Added photo, but you actually have to turn off Apple’s new iCloud Photo Library service to activate it.
If you want to get Camera Roll back and don’t mind sticking with physical storage, here’s how to turn it on:
Most iOS 8 users have probably switched to the iCloud Photo Library by default when you upgrading to iOS 8. To turn it off go to Settings >> Photo & Camera >> iCloud Photo Library (Beta) switch to off.
Apple released the first build of iOS 8.1 to developers this week, but a public release has not been announced yet, though the rumor mill has pegged October 20th as the probable release date.

Developers can be on iOS 8.1 beta though….which is why they mention it….
We are on 8.0.2, not 8.2.
Yet they are talking about neither of these. They are talking about 8.1 beta that’ll release by about 20th-24th sometime.
I figured the “Camera Roll-gate” was mostly a user education issue, I didn’t think they would really change the name back.
Lol 8.0.1-gate. Keynote-gate. Bend-gate. AND NOW CAMERA ROLL-GATE?!?!?!? That’s three gates in a matter of two weeks!

8.0.1 was nothing more than a bug by a guy who should’ve been fired years ago since this guy also was at fault for Apple Maps trouble. Keynote thing was a simple bug too as having a live twitter feed under the video made it mess up. Bend gate is the biggest over blown thing too. 9 people in the world have reported issues. All from people deciding it’s a good idea to put their phone in a back pocket and sit on it for extended amounts of time.
