Apple has already released a steady stream of major and minor software updates and continues to do so with the release of ResearchKit 1.1 that includes several new features, most notable of which is support for iPads.
In the few short months that it’s been out, ResearchKit has already helped medical researchers make breakthroughs with diseases like Parkinsons. Apps made with ResearchKit were strictly iPhone only since it launch in March, but the addition of iPad support now opens studies up to millions of more users.
Apple’s software engineers announced the updated version last night that contains multiple new features:
– Audiometry active task
– Reaction time active task
– Navigable Ordered Task
– iPad support
– Image Capture step
– Improved slider support
– plus various bug fixes and style improvements
Apple’s ResearchKit frameworks allow researchers to turn iPhones and iPads into medical research tools that can access data from users’ accelerometer, gyroscope, microphone, and GPS to assess a participant’s activity levels, motor impairments, memory and more.
