This Sunday marks three years since the death of Steve Jobs.

This Sunday will mark three years since the death of Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs at the age of 56. Although many Apple employees will doubtless be working over the weekend, Tim Cook took today as the opportunity to send out a note to Apple employees, sharing some of his thoughts on Jobs’ legacy at Apple.

The note can be read in full below:

Team,

Sunday will mark the third anniversary of Steve’s passing. I’m sure that many of you will be thinking of him on that day, as I know I will.

I hope you’ll take a moment to appreciate the many ways Steve made our world better. Children learn in new ways thanks to the products he dreamed up. The most creative people on earth use them to compose symphonies and pop songs, and write everything from novels to poetry to text messages. Steve’s life’s work produced the canvas on which artists now create masterpieces.

Steve’s vision extended far beyond the years he was alive, and the values on which he built Apple will always be with us. Many of the ideas and projects we’re working on today got started after he died, but his influence on them — and on all of us — is unmistakeable.

Enjoy your weekend, and thanks for helping carry Steve’s legacy into the future.

Tim

While this year especially has signalled many changes for Apple that may not have happened under Jobs’ rule, there is no doubt that the company’s culture since day one has been dictated more by Steve Jobs than by anyone.

In Tim Cook’s 2011 commencement speech at Auburn University, Apple’s CEO discussed his admiration for Jobs, while on plenty of other occasions he has shared some of the lessons he learned from Steve.

I remember the day I heard of his passing, that is because it was on my birthday. I was defiantly not a happy birthday boy. He will never be forgotten!

The day of Steve’s death was the event that my mind tried to delay with all of its cosmic willpower, and I still miss him.
That said, after watching and listening to his presentations and interviews, I strongly believe that Tim Cook is an excellent man for the role, responsibility and voice for Apple and Steve’s vision. Apple isn’t rudderless.

Regardless of what you may think Steve had a huge impact on the whole mobile marketplace. His vision may have been too soon but it’s hard to argue it’s impact He changed the world for the better. Regardless of the “camp” you align with he changed the world for the better. We need more like him, and I hope there are more to come. Sleep well master of the obsessive.
