An unannounced Apple product may have just been leaked by an FCC regulatory filing that describes a mysterious device that looks a lot like the Apple TV, but lacks all the features.
The FCC filing reveals that the device has the same dimensions and screw placement as the current Apple TV. Documents don’t show any pictures of the internals, but the agency did test Bluetooth and NFC on the device. No Wi-Fi tests were run, which could mean it doesn’t have it at all, or it uses a previously tested design.
An official product name isn’t given. An image of the regulatory label located on the bottom of the device reveals the model number as A1844.

If Apple does release the device it appears that it will have a lower power draw than the Apple TV. The inclusion of NFC may hint that it will be used for Apple Pay. Or maybe as an updated version of iBeacons to be used at Apple’s stores.

It could possibly have something to do with Home Automation. Apple’s new iOS 10 update adds a new Home app to devices allowing you to control all of your smart things from one screen.
Apple is also rumored to be working on a Siri-powered speaker akin to Amazon’s Echo, only creepier. So basically, the little black box could be anything.
