OS X Mavericks Download Rate Continues to Grow

Real-time data released by metrics company Net Applications shows that the latest version of OS X, Mavericks, represents 2.42 percent of the overall desktop operating system market share.

According to the firm, Mavericks gained 1.58 points during the month of November — taking the OS from just 0.84 percent of the market in the month of October.

While these numbers are nowhere close to the market share enjoyed by iOS, it does show that customers are steadily upgrading to the free OS weeks after its debut.

Understandably users’ decision to upgrade to Mavericks has resulted in older OS X versions losing ground. Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) shed 1.48 points to reach an install base of 1.85 percent, while Lion (OS X 10.7) fell 0.22 percent to 1.34 points. Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) meanwhile dropped 0.07 percent and now represents 1.53 percent of the OS X install base, while Leopard (OS X 10.5) now has 0.32 percent, after dropping 0.01 points.
