Apple’s upcoming OLED MacBook Pro redesign will address one major pain point with the current models: weight.

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, in the latest issue of his Power On newsletter, says the OLED MacBook Pro will be “significantly lighter” than its predecessors.

OLED MacBook Pro redesign will be easier to carry

The 14-inch MacBook Pro is relatively easy to carry around, weighing 3.4 to 3.6 pounds. But the 16-inch model tips the scales at 4.7 to 4.8 pounds, making it a heavier burden when you’re on the go.

Apple will supposedly fix this pain point with the upcoming OLED MacBook Pro redesign. The machines will be “significantly lighter.”

To achieve this, the company has “reengineered the machine’s interior miniaturizing parts and rearranging components to make the computer much easier to carry,” says Gurman in his Power On newsletter.

While not mentioned, Apple may also make the OLED MacBook Pro thinner than the current models. Hopefully, all of this comes without sacrificing any ports or functionality.

In any case, don’t expect the OLED MacBook Pro to be as light or thin as the MacBook Air.

Dynamic Island will soon make its way to the MacBook Pro

Besides an OLED display and a lighter design, the new MacBook Pros will reportedly feature an iPhone-like Dynamic Island and, for the first time in a MacBook, introduce touchscreen support. A lighter chassis should make the larger model easier to carry and hold in one hand when using the touchscreen.

Typically, a thinner, lighter design comes with trade-offs in cooling or battery life. Apple could offset some of these trade-offs by using more efficient components. However, until the OLED MacBook Pro is officially announced, it’s unclear whether those space savings will come with compromises.
