The giant monster action of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters returns with season two in February 2026, Apple TV announced Thursday. The series is set in the MonsterVerse that includes Godzilla and other kaiju, with Kong taking a starring role in the teaser trailer that just premiered.
Watch the new video now for an early look at the other giant monsters that’ll be tearing up the scenery — and some of the actors — in season two.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 stomps back onto Apple TV in 2026
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters follows multiple generations of characters connected to the secretive organization known as Monarch, which has studied Titans for decades. Blending family drama with globe-trotting adventure and high-stakes monster encounters, the story spans from the Cold War era of the 20th century to the aftermath of Godzilla’s 2014 emergence, revealing how humanity has lived in the shadow of these awe-inspiring beasts.
Apple TV laid the groundwork for season two by reminding viewers what happened in season one before going on to drop hints about what’s coming soon:
“Season one of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings looking to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell). The first season takes place in the 1950s, as well as half a century later when Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows.
“Season two will pick up with the fate of Monarch — and the world — hanging in the balance. The dramatic saga reveals buried secrets that reunite our heroes (and villains) on Kong’s Skull Island, and a new, mysterious village where a mythical Titan rises from the sea. The ripple effects of the past make waves in the present day, blurring the bonds between family, friend and foe — all with the threat of a Titan event on the horizon.”
The 10-episode second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters premieres globally on Friday, February 27. It stars Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett and Anders Holm.
The series earns positive reviews from most critics, with season one having an 87% approval rating on the review-aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes.
Some viewers give it a low rating, however, because they want a show that focuses on giant monsters stomping on cities. Instead, Apple TV made a series about the people who live in a world in which kaiju are a real threat.
Kong chews the scenery in new Apple TV teaser for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2
A season two teaser trailer for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is ready now.
While Godzilla played a central role in season one, the early season two trailer includes a notable lack of a certain radioactive lizard. But Kong steps in to take his place — not surprising, as the action kicks off on the big ape’s Skull Island.
As it’s a teaser trailer, of course there’s no big reveal for the mystery monster that “rises from the sea” in the upcoming episodes. We do get a couple of surfers ripped apart by some small creatures, then quick glimpses of a tentacled horror massive enough to drag a whole boat below the waves.
Expect Kong — and hopefully Godzilla — to face off against this hidden kaiju in season two.
