Apple released macOS Sequoia 15.4 for Mac users around the world Monday. The upgrade brings AI-powered automatic categorization of emails in Apple’s Mail app, among other things. Plus, it makes Apple Intelligence available in many more languages and regions.
The launch came earlier than expected — Apple previously said the next macOS version would debut in April.
iPadOS 18.4 also launched Monday with the same mail categorization. Plus, iOS 18.4 reached iPhone users, and visionOS 2.4 arrived as well.
Mac gets more AI features with macOS Sequoia 15.4
One of the artificial intelligence features Apple developed enables the Mail application to assign messages to categories based on their contents. Messages are automatically sorted into Primary, Transactions, Updates and Promotions. It’s optional and can be deactivated.
The feature debuted for iPhone in autumn 2024, and Mac users just now got it with the release of macOS Sequoia 15.4. The same goes for iPad users with the new iPadOS 18.4.
And speaking of AI, the suite of features dubbed Apple Intelligence previously worked only in English. Starting Monday, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Chinese (simplified) all joined the list of supported languages. The same goes for localized English for Singapore and India. Apple Intelligence is now accessible in nearly all regions around the world on Mac, iPhone and iPad.
The collection of AI tools can tweak users’ grammar and images, create custom emoji and generate cutesy pictures based on user prompts. More features are in development, too.
Apple’s release note for macOS 15.4 says, “This update introduces the ability to create Memory movies in Photos with Apple Intelligence, a new Sketch Style option in Image Playground, Mail Categorization, and enhancements to better organize and filter your library in Photos. This release also includes other features, bug fixes, and security updates for your Mac.”
macOS Sequoia 15.4 replaces version 15.3, which launched in January and gave Mac users the ability to create Genmoji: custom emoji that can be used in Messages and other apps.

How to update your Mac
To download the macOS Sequoia update, go to Apple menu > About This Mac. Then click Software Update. Alternatively, you can install the new version from the App Store. (Note: At the time of this writing, Apple had not yet updated the version of macOS in the App Store. But it should happen soon.)
iPhone and iPad users can install the new iOS and iPadOS versions directly by opening the Settings app and going to General > Software Update. Alternatively, update devices by connecting them to a Mac (or to a PC running iTunes).
The watchOS update can be installed directly onto an Apple Watch, as long as the wearable is connected to Wi-Fi. From the Settings app, navigate to General > Software Update. Or install it from an iPhone by opening the Apple Watch app and going to My Watch > General > Software Update.
To get the tvOS update, start by navigating to the Settings app on Apple TV. Then click through to System, then click on Software Updates, then click on Update Software.
