Leak Says iPad 2 Jailbreak Will Arrive Tonight At 6:17:11PM [Update: Fake!]

The iPad 2 jailbreak we’ve all long been waiting for could arrive as early as this evening.

According to Nexus404, the image above briefly popped up on JailbreakMe creator comex’s Twitter feed last night, then just as quickly disappeared.

I was on comex’s Twitter about an hour ago when he posted a single image link. I was surprised to see it was what appears to be a flyer for his new jailbreak? When I reloaded the Twitter page it was gone completely. I still had the image in another tab, though, so I saved it to my computer. Perhaps this wasn’t intended to get out yet or maybe there was a delay? I don’t know, I’m just looking at the image unsure if he’s really intending to release it tomorrow or not. This is certainly weird.

As you can see in the image, the jailbreak is promised tonight at 6:17:11PM GMT. Two iPad 2s make it clear this is an iPad 2 jailbreak.

This would be super easy to fake, so we’re not sold on this, but we’re also chomping enough at the bit for an iPad 2 jailbreak that we’re willing to be a little credulous.

No doubt about it, Comex has been teasing something big for a while, specifically in regards to a mystery project called “Elevator.” We also know that Comex had a working jailbreak exploit for the iPad 2 as early as late March. An iPad 2 jailbreak is coming. The only question is when.

Update: Looks like we were right to be skeptical, regardless of our hopefulness. This has now been pretty conclusively proven to be fake, and the actual arrival of the iPad 2 jailbreak is as far away as ever.

Big flipping deal!  I haven’t been waiting on it.  So, is COM now the jailbreakers’ press agent?

  2. comex says:

    It’s a fake

Running with a rumor once again, huh.  Sure beats digging for a story.

Any news on the iPhone 47 yet?

    Comex isn’t elevat0r bud.. that’s i0n1c..

  5. Andy Cheale says:

Fake, and I think you’ll find that elevat0r has nothing to do with comex, and is in fact a project of i0nics. Thank you and good night

It seems to me that the jailbreakers are ‘losing the battle’ as it were.  The jailbreaks are released longer and longer after each OS release, the number of people doing it is less, and the (legal) reasons for doing it at all have all but evaporated.

They’ve even taken to announcing jailbreaks that aren’t ‘really’ jailbreaks so as to make it seem like they are hot on the trail when in fact they are way behind.

You guys may want to poke your heads out of your folks’ basement and notice that no one gives a crap about jailbreaking anymore.

  8. Dustin Moskowitz says:

For me, it’s just adding a few conveniences… I can’t help but triple-click on my iPad to jiggle all open apps and close them with one press like I can on my JB 3GS. They’re just great little add-ons that make the OS that much more usable. Don’t really care about the big reasons like unlocking SIM’s and all that.

Comex did tweet that his updated jailbreakme.com is coming soon

If only it would work with the iPad 2.

    disappointed again :(

  13. Gheedsgreed says:

    what a douche

  14. Gheedsgreed says:

True, the reasons to jailbreak are fewer with the upcoming iOS5, which is good in the sense that Apple is incorporating features that previously were only accessible through jailbreaking. Hopefully in future releases iOS will continue to do that. iOS5 introduced many radical improvements so I wouldn’t be surprised if they continued to add jailbreak features (I’m hoping for SBSettings incorporated into dropdown, and the ability to switch the default browser)

  15. Gheedsgreed says:

    No one cares

Quite possible the biggest f*cking idiot I have ever seen comment on here.  I’d wager that Jerry Ballard is the one living in his mommy’s basement.  Good luck with living life as YOU.

And another blogger just re posts a rumor. Do you really think we need 1000 different sites posting the same shit. Oh and just so you know it was fake. Get some original content and help keep the net free from shit.

  18. Marcio Morgado says:

Not sure if Apple will go that far but it does seem that Jailbreaking is going the way of the Do-Do bird. It’s a shame really, added features or not you should still be able to customize it.

  19. 011Bojan says:

Can’t wait, really. Customization, yaaaay!!! :D

  20. Tom McGrath says:

I have an old second generation iPod touch which I did think about jailbreaking, but I was told it slowed the performance down a lot (and it’s already quite slow on mine). Also, there are very few things that I have seen that look good from the jailbreakers, minus some notification systems (and now that iOS 5 has improved notifications, I probably will never jailbreak).

  21. Gustjor says:

Sorry to say, but there will be no support for iOS 5. You will not receive an update

  22. Tavolio says:

hummm geohot, OUT… Chronic, not even has a twitter account… Dev team, waiting that someone do something and they will copy it… and Comex, bored of this. damm it

and now beside lies….  fake info

  23. Danny Boye says:

i think comex is very near to release jailbreakMe but the leak make things disturbed and disappointing all of us. however, i still hope that comex release it before Apple fix the security hole.
