If you are among the millions of Apple fans that just preordered the new iPhone X, here’s one piece of advice: Whatever you do, don’t break it.
Apple updated its webpage for the pricing on out-of-warranty repairs, and the iPhone X shatters the record when it comes to screen repairs and other damage.
iPhone X repair prices reach a new high
Busting your iPhone X screen without AppleCare+ will cost you $279 in the United States. Any other damage will cost $549 if it’s not covered by the warranty.
Fees vary in other countries, but none of the prices are cheap. In pretty much every country, you could just buy an iPhone SE replacement for cheaper:
- Australia: $419 for screen repair, $819 for other damage
- Canada: $359 screen for repair, $709 for other damage
- Germany: 321 euros for screen repair, 611 euros for other damage
- United Kingdom: 286 pounds for screen repair, 556 pounds for other damage
If you’ve purchased AppleCare+, the price for repairs runs significantly cheaper. The plan costs $199 upfront and gives you coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage. You’ll only pay $29 for screen damage, or $99 for any other damage.

The iPhone X opened up for preorders this morning. Shipping estimates orders quickly slipped into weeks due to extremely high demand and Apple’s low supply. New orders for the iPhone X currently won’t ship for five to six weeks.

Wait….200 for the apple care + 29 to repair. So, it’s 229. Without apple care: 279. so, the advantage is just a stupid 50 USD ? It does not worth !!!! bullshit ! It’s better to be more carefully and run the risk indeed.
But what if you need two or more repairs?
I am not this kind. I use iPhone since the 4S. Never replaced the glass before.
But you are right…it’s just worth if you are clumsy
“replacing” rear glass for $199 + $99 instead of $549 also doesn’t convince you? You should remember that problem from 4S too :D
549 if you brake twice
nope, read the news carefully: “Any other damage will cost $549 if it’s not covered by the warranty”, 549 each time you break rear glass without applecare+
When you bought a top-of-the line Mercedes or BMW, you’re not supposed to complain that the same repair for a Honda Civic costs 4x less…
I intend to have my phone included in my contents insurance as a specified item. That covers it for theft, loss, damage, water damage anywhere in the world. I find this a better proposition to Apple Care?
I don’t, apple care is much easier to work with than an insurance claim.
I haven’t purchased apple care for the iPhone in 3-4 years. I typically sell it every year and I just put a decent case and nothing really happens to them. If you’re going to keep it for more than a year then I think it’s worth it for the extended warranty alone. I just had a screen replaced with like 10 days left after my initial warranty on a 7 plus.
