There could be a lot more storage inside your next iPhone.

Apple’s next-generation iPhones could be its biggest yet — at least as far as storage is concerned.

According to one research firm, both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus will come in whopping 256GB options, while the latter will also pack more RAM.

This year’s iPhones are likely to arrive with only minor cosmetic changes — like revamped antenna bands that aren’t quite so easy to spot — but they will be much more exciting on the inside, thanks mostly to new processors and better cameras.

They will also be welcome upgrades for those who like to carry lots of music, movies, and photos, according to TrendForce, which claims Apple has now “settled on most of the specs for the next iPhone,” which includes up to 256GB of storage.

What TrendForce isn’t sure about is the other storage options.

IHS Technologies analyst Kevin Wang this week promised that Apple will finally ditch the 16GB option for this year’s iPhone 7 series and make 32GB the minimum. But Apple is said to be “unsure” about whether the mid-range model will be 64GB or 128GB.

TrendForce adds that the iPhone 7 Plus will also pack 3GB of RAM, which backs up claims made by reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, while the smaller iPhone 7 is expected to stick with just 2GB — like the iPhone 6s series.

Other features that are likely to be exclusive to the larger iPhone 7 Plus include Apple’s first dual-lens camera module, and a Smart Connector.

Does anyone need that much? ON an iPad i understand, Movies, Photos etc. But why a phone? I’ve had a 64GB iPad for ages and never even come close to filling it.

My 128 has been full for ages now. I’d buy a 1TB version if they offered it.

Wow, what do you keep on there? I feel like Apple play a game with storage, like the SE: 16GB is too little now I feel, but 64GB may be a bit much for some users, 32 would be good but they don’t offer one.

All my photos since my first gen iPhone and a ton of music. I’d love to be able to throw whole lossless catalogs on there, but storage is the limiting factor.

I have really high end headphones, so lossless audio is a must – the more storage the better.

Rocking the 128gb Plus since launch, with only about 10gb free currently. Personally most of that storage goes to local music and photos, not a fan of streaming.

the music does take up alot of space, apps too. THe next iPhone will have storage of 32gb, 128gb, and 256gb. If the iPads have it then the phones should too. In another 5-10 years we should have 1TB storage options on the phones and pads

Please just rid the world of 16 GB phones. Trying to manage space with music and picture streams nearly impossible especially once you have the ‘Messages (Saved)’ allocation you can clear.

I get I will sound pre-historic here, but while I applaud a move to 256GB, I wish Apple would let us put music directly onto our phones (or, in my case, the latest-gen iPod Touch) instead of having to use the damn cloud and have to upload, then download everything on our devices.
I bought a 128GB iPod Touch because I have a lot of music … using iCloud is a pain in the a–. But I can’t turn it off or I lose all my downloaded Apple Music on my PC. Simply syncing music from my PC to my iPod Touch is, essentially, impossible if you’re an Apple Music subscriber.

Laugh at me if you must about the iPod Touch (I don’t want the monthly bill that comes with a smart phone and can live with the Touch in wi-fi areas, and my old cellphone for telephone calls and texting). And I get not all our Apple Music fans (God knows it has many areas where it pisses me off).

    Sorry for the longest rant.

3GB RAM sounds like a dream to me. But seeing as the 6S just finally got 2GB of RAM, I find it hard to believe in only a year we’d get more, even for a ‘Pro’ iPhone.

  6. Lazerbyte says:

What are you gonna need a smart connector on the iPhone for and it is on the back of the phone and that seems really silly to have it there? Does it mean it will be used for some sort of headphones? Very odd if you ask me. I’m happy with my iPhone 6s Plus! No need to really upgrade now as I’m sure when the 8 comes out i’ll have a major upgrade as my 6s will still work with iOS 10 if they announce it!
