The iPad mini 3 was a bit of a disappointment because Apple really didn’t make any improvements other than adding Touch ID. Big changes could be in order for 2015, though, according to a video of an alleged 4th generation iPad mini rear shell that shows Apple’s smallest tablet is about to get an iPad Air redesign.

Watch the full hands-on video below.

The leaked shell looks a lot like the current iPad mini, but has a few elements borrowed from the iPad Air 2. The speaker grill at the bottom has been replaced with a single row of large holes and the mute switch has been removed.

The iPad Mini 4 is expected to get some serious internal upgrades as well, possibly including an A9 processor, more RAM, a better camera and a thinner design. Apple has not announced any details on a possible launch, but the updated iPads aren’t expected to hit stores until fall 2015.

yep looks like a ipad? not much you can do at this point with an iPad in way of design.
when they make it thinner and thinner. would be cool to see a zero edge though

Just sold my iPad mini to make room for a refreshed version. The retina screen was the worst Apple has ever produced. The app icons seem so far below the glass, and the colour contrast and saturation are terrible. Looking forward to a laminated display on the next version.

Wow, this is perhaps the first such complaint I’ve read about. I’m rocking an original Mini, and also a two-month-old Air 2, both jailbroken. My Mini display is really good. In comparison, the Air 2 is fantastic! Can’t even imagine what you mean by “icons seem so far below the glass”, or “the color contrast and saturation are terrible.” Are those icons so far below the glass that you can’t reach them? Gotta say, those are some pretty nit-picky complaints. Why not just dump the iPad and get a slow, clunky Samsung pad?

Or as I said, I could just get the updated version. Apple has already corrected the issues with the retina display, with the laminated retina display (sometimes advertised as Retina HD/Retina 5K) appearing on the iPhone 6, MacBook Air and Pro, iPad Air 2, and iMac. I have both a retina MacBook Pro and iPhone 6 and the screen on the iPad looks muted, colours dull and washed out. Apps on the iPhone appear as if floating on the glass because of the crispness of the display, but on the mini the content sit below the glass, wich can make using the device as a graphics tablet for art feel disconnected. Wired, Engaget and others agree that the mini in comparison to other iPads is the worst iteration of the retina display on an iPad to date. Get glasses?

Nope, that’s a photo (perhaps even a Photoshopped one), of what may or may not be the back cover of an as yet unannounced, unreleased, unnamed Apple Device… most probably a variant of the iPad Mini. Until Apple officially announces a new Mini, that’s all it is.
