A Connecticut man has filed a lawsuit against an EMT after being hit on the head with an iPad while in the back of an ambulance. Robert Alix, who is seeking $15,000 in damages, also claims that he was beaten and told to “get a haircut and join the military.”

In a lawsuit filed in Bridgeport Superior Court against Monroe Emergency Medical Services, Alix says he has suffered serious psychological trauma and permanent injuries as a result of the alleged assault by EMT Alejandro Ramirez.

The incident is claimed to have happened on March 14. Alix was reportedly being transported “shackled and handcuffed to a stretcher” in an ambulance from the Police Department to St. Vincent’s Medical Center, according to EMS1.

“While en route police said Alix claimed Ramirez struck him in the forehead with an iPad and then began choking him,” the report adds. “Ramirez told police he was advising Alix when he lost his balance and accidentally hit the man in the forehead with his iPad.”

EMT Michael Suchinski, Ramirez’s partner, told police that he was in the driver’s seat when the incident happened and heard Alix and Ramirez exchanging words in the back. He claims he then turned around to see Ramirez grab Alix by the throat.

Ramirez was charged with third-degree assault and is due to appear in court on August 26. However, lawyer Eugene Riccio says Ramirez “maintains his innocence in this matter and patently denies these false allegations.”
