The new Elgato Prompter XL teleprompter, a significantly larger version of the company’s popular Prompter teleprompter, is designed specifically for professional studio environments. The Corsair-owned Elgato said the new model addresses the most common complaint about the original: size.
“We heard it constantly: ‘Love Prompter, but we need something bigger for our studio,'” said Julian Fest, general manager at Elgato. “Prompter XL takes what creators loved about the original — the versatility, the simple setup, the reliability — and scales it up for studio environments.”
Elgato Prompter XL teleprompter suits professional studios
Released on October 9 with a price tag of $599.99, Prompter XL features a 15.6-inch display — more than 2.5 times larger than the 9-inch screen on the original Prompter. This laptop-sized screen maintains text readability at distances up to 15 feet, making it ideal for studio productions where talent needs to move freely around the set.
Professional-grade display and connectivity
The Prompter XL’s display offers Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080) at 600 nits brightness. That’s 50% brighter than the original model. This increased brightness ensures visibility even under harsh studio lighting conditions. Like its predecessor, the XL model connects via a single USB 3.2 cable that handles both video and power, though it requires 15 watts of power delivery. Users without compatible USB-C ports may need to connect through a powered hub.
The display attaches magnetically to the main unit, making it easy to remove for cleaning, travel or desk mounting. A new power button allows for quick on/off control, addressing a complaint about the original Prompter which lacked this feature and could drain system resources when not in use.
Built for bigger cameras

The reinforced build supports cameras weighing up to 11 pounds (5 kilograms), including heavy camcorders and many studio cameras. The oversized bracket and lens port accommodate lenses up to 22 centimeters in length, from wide-angle to long zoom configurations. This represents a significant upgrade over the original Prompter, which was limited to short or medium lenses.
Elgato includes multiple backplates to fit various lens types, and for unusual configurations, users can download 3D printing files from Elgato Marketplace to create custom backplates. The unit features three mounting points — one ⅜-inch and two ¼-inch threads — compatible with professional tripods and C-stands, plus a cold shoe rail for mounting accessories like microphones or lights.
Smart software included
The Prompter XL comes bundled with Elgato’s Camera Hub software. It includes Voice Sync functionality that automatically adjusts scrolling speed to match the speaker’s pace. This feature requires an NVIDIA RTX GPU or Apple Silicon M1 chip or better. Users can control the teleprompter from their computer or via Stream Deck for one-touch script management.
When not in use as a teleprompter, the Prompter XL functions as a secondary monitor for presentations, video conferencing or general multitasking. But at 7.43 pounds, it’s considerably heavier than the 1.52-pound original model.
The Prompter XL is available now through elgato.com and retailers. While the original Prompter is on Amazon, the XL version isn’t yet.
