Edifier’s new D32 speaker, a stylish and powerful wireless speaker that looks a bit like your grandfather’s radio, packs modern audio technology. Its hi-res audio capabilities and robust 60-watt amplifier system sit inside a hand-made wooden cabinet with crazy-cool retro buttons. And it costs just $170, which might seem steep to your grandpa, but it’s not bad.

This isn’t Edifier’s first retro-looking speaker. The company is know for some interesting, futuristic designs, as well. And once again, with the new D32 speaker’s design, it makes a visual statement.  Its accordion-style switch selection might remind you of classic 1950s automobiles. Available in black-walnut/silver or white/gold finishes, the speaker exudes a vintage charm that complements what the company calls high-fidelity audio performance.

Edifier has acoustically treated the wooden cabinet to minimize unwanted resonance and distortion. That helps ensure pure and immersive sound, Edifier said. And under the hood, the D32 packs a punch with a 4-inch long-throw midrange driver, dual bass reflex ports and twin 1-inch silk dome tweeters. The built-in dual Class D amplification delivers a total of 60W RMS, with 15W dedicated to each tweeter and 30W for the mid/low frequencies. The powerful amplification system should fill a room with sound without any trouble.

In terms of wireless performance, the D32 supports dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3 with dual-device pairing, AirPlay 2 and LDAC streaming at up to 990kbps. So you get easy streaming from iOS, Android or other compatible devices. Additionally, Edifier’s ConneX app offers source switching, playback control and audio-customization options.

While primarily designed for home use, the D32 incorporates a built-in battery that provides up to 11 hours of portable playtime between charges. Weighing a pretty light 6.7 pounds, it can travel with you to outdoor gatherings and the like.

Edifier D32 is available on Amazon for $169.99. That price helps make it a compelling option for listeners seeking a combination of vintage style and modern sound quality without spending a fortune.
