This could be the app that launches or resolves 1,000 spats: Talk-o-Meter monitors your conversation to show who talks more.
The iPhone app monitors the conversation by distinguishing between two voices to elaborate on who is getting the most air time and who is patiently listening.
Depending on which study you look at, women either talk three times as much as men or men talk just as much as women.
If you place the iPhone between two people having a conversation, the Talk-o-Meter app distinguishes between the two voices. At intervals of one, two or five minutes it displays different lengths of red and blue bars to show what percentage of time each speaker was talking.
According to the app makers, it might put an end to you-never-listen-to-me rants.
“Nobody has to be unpleasantly exhorted – from time to time everyone can take a cursory glance at the Talk-o-Meter and adapt if he or she is talking too much. Gentle biofeedback works.”
Still, if you get to the point where you need to prove you’re listening or the other person is talking too much it’s probably already splitsville.
The $4.99 app does not record audio or measure sound levels (so screaming “I’M LEAVING!” will get you the same weight as whispering “No, don’t.”)
Next up for the German devs who designed it: a version that can track multiple voices. Which could be big fun at work or in the family living room.
