Remember those awesome pictures you used to take on your Game Boy Camera? Now you can snap them on your iPhone, thanks to BitCam.
Created by Iconfactory to celebrate its 20th anniversary, BitCam brings retro photography from the ’90s back to life. It even has an 8-bit interface inspired by Apple’s early Mac OS operating system.
BitCam isn’t just another camera app that takes retro photos. It was built to simulate the kind of programs Iconfactory was building for Apple products when it first started out, so don’t expect anything too fancy.
The app’s entire design is black and white, and controls are chunky — even on a super sharp Retina display. And despite the 64-bit processor in your iPhone, BitCam is throttled to simulate the 16-bit processor in “your mini pocket computer back in 1996.”
Even the promotional website that tells you all about BitCam looks like it’s a few decades old — as is the app’s pricing policy. Like old-school shareware, BitCam is free to download and try, but there’s a $1.99 in-app purchase to unlock color.
BitCam boasts three resolutions — super-res, standard, and “fatbits” — and allows you to control focus and exposure. And it’s as simple as that! Go download it from the App Store now — you’ll love it!

“Mac OS 6”??!! Where have you been? There has NEVER been a ‘Mac OS 6’. I suspect you’re referring to System 6, or maybe you’ve been reading way too much into all of these wild WWDC rumors…
everyone refers to the old systems as mac os. get over it.
