The upcoming fourth-generation iPhone SE might see a pretty big size increase and become the first SE handset to boast an OLED screen, according to the latest rumors. Other rumored upgrades for the budget iPhone include a powerful 48MP camera and more memory so it can run Apple Intelligence features.
Those are some big changes for an entry-level handset folks thought might be on the chopping block not long ago.
iPhone SE (4th generation) size increase and OLED panel rumored
iPhone SE 3, launched in March 2022, is due for an upgrade. And when the new version of the compact handset comes out, it may see a big bump up in size and become the first SE with an OLED screen, Weibo user Ice Universe said Saturday. (The leaker also listed specs for iPhone 17 series handsets, including the rumored slim one that could become a premium model.)
Ice predicts iPhone SE 4’s display will grow to 6.06 inches, up from SE 3’s 4.7 inches (but a little smaller than CAD renders showed recently). The other big news is the possible OLED panel, which would be an SE first. In 2019, rumors claimed all iPhones would have OLED screens by 2020.
Previous rumors indicated the iPhone SE 4 will resemble iPhone 14 and run on Apple’s A18 chip. iPhone SE 4 likely will come with Face ID instead of the current Touch ID Home button. It could include a 48MP camera. And it might sport enough memory, up to 8GB, to support Apple Intelligence functionality. Of course, as with any new Apple gear, it’s a good bet we’ll see a USB-C connector instead of Lightning.
The iPhone SE 3 currently lists for $429. The iPhone SE 4, which could come in spring 2025, might jump up in price to $549, according to other rumors.
At least we seem to be past the on-again, off-again rumors of iPhone SE 4 being placed on hold or even killed entirely.
