Apple’s former marketing director says he returned a bent iPad

Apple’s former Senior Marketing Director Michael Gartenberg has chimed in on the company’s latest “bendgate,” this time related to its iPad Pro. In a recent tweet, Gartenberg said that he returned his iPad Pro after spotting a noticeable bend.

“Perhaps it was within Apple tolerances but Apple tolerances shouldn’t allow for a clear noticeble bend,” he wrote. “Much as monitors with noticeble dead pixels aren’t acceptable either.”

In follow-up tweets, he revealed that, while he didn’t measure the bend, “The fact that it’s noticeble is what matters.”

Apple has insisted that the slight bend in some 2018 iPad units is not only nothing to worry about, but actually less than the variance in some previous models. However, Gartenberg has suggested that this reassurance isn’t sufficient and that he didn’t feel like playing “device roulette.”

According to Apple, the issue is something to do with the cooling process involving the iPad Pro’s metal and plastic components, which takes place during manufacturing.

Gartenberg worked for Apple from April 2013 through April 2016.
