Apple’s wireless future has been delayed.

The iPhone-maker revealed today that it is still not ready to start shipping AirPods, even though customers were told they would launch by the end of October.

[contextly_auto_sidebar] “The early response to AirPods has been incredible. We don’t believe in shipping a product before it’s ready, and we need a little more time before AirPods are ready for our customers,” an Apple spokesperson told TechCrunch.

Apple didn’t specify if its a hardware or software issue that is holding back the AirPods. The new buds are supposed to be a complimentary accessory for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Both new phones don’t have a headphone jack, requiring owners to use a dongle to charge and listen to wired headphones at the same time.

The new wireless earbuds were announced at the iPhone 7 event last month. To boost audio quality, Apple created its own W1 Bluetooth chip that is extremely energy efficient. AirPods are supposed to link seamlessly with iPhone and come with a built-in microphone so wearers can give Siri commands.

Early reviews for AirPods were fairly positive in terms of performance and battery life. Apple did not give a date for when fans can finally expect to buy a pair.

Uhhh… shouldn’t the word be “complementary,” rather than “complimentary?” In the latter case, that would mean they would be free. Ah, another brilliant product of American journalism school!
