Apple just granted the Apple TV App Store another small update today. It now supports developers adding video previews to their app description pages. These videos can be up to 30 seconds and showcase how the app works or aspects of the gameplay.
You might recall that Apple first introduced video previews in the iOS App Store, taking a cue from Google Play for Android. They paint a better picture for users looking to download or purchase an app, rather than just leaving them to look at some screenshots and read a brief description. Interestingly but not surprisingly, Apple never brought these videos to the Mac App Store, but that’s far from the only thing Apple has left out for Mac apps.
Of course, not every app page on Apple TV will now have a video attached to it. Developers can choose to include a video trailer alongside the screenshots if they make one, but it’s not necessary.
Be on the lookout for several other new features coming to the Apple TV soon with tvOS 9.2 just around the corner. The beta releases so far have revealed the software update will come with app folders on the Home screen, compatibility with Bluetooth keyboards, the iOS 9 app switcher and more. Apple has already improved the Apple TV little by little since launch, throwing in such features as top charts and additional app categories in the App Store. It’s nice to see they’re definitely not slacking in the TV department.
