Less than a week after seeding the iOS 9.1 beta 4 to developers, Apple has released the fifth beta for the it’s upcoming update to iOS 9 that includes a bunch of small new features and performance enhancements.

The latest release notes for iOS 9.1 beta 5 don’t mention any major new additions. Previous betas for iOS 9.1 did add new wallpapers of Jupiter, Mars, Neptune, and a desert landscape, along with some small changes to the shift and delete key.

iOS 9.1’s most notable new feature is the new emoji characters added to the keyboard that include images for burrito, avocado, unicorn, taco, and a new mystery eye emoji. Apple also added support for the new Apple TV and iPad Pro, both of which are due out later this fall.

We’ll let you know if we find any new features once we install the new beta on our devices. Developers can grab the software update over at the Apple Dev Center, or via an over-the-air software update if you have iOS 9.1 beta 4 installed.

What about the middle-finger emoji..? It was all the rage half a year ago, now that it is finally added nobody talks about it..?

There are plenty of fixes going in, but they’re not really user facing features. As someone who’s actually running the betas, I can tell you that bugs are being filed and fixed.

Exactly! It’s not just about ’emojis’ but then again, people above you aren’t developers. They’re nannies trying to do their professional work of commentating (trolling? Crying?) here.

        Is the iPhone-crashing-that-requires-a-hard-reset bug fixed?

      • G1 says:

Well that’s good to hear. I honestly haven’t noticed a ton of bugs in 9.0.2, but it’s nice to know that new emojis aren’t the star of the show in 9.1.

Exactly. iOS 9.1 is mostly there to add support for the iPad Pro, so it won’t bring significant user-facing features to the rest of devices.

Is it possible to still apply for the public beta program?
