Apple has promoted Adrian Perica to the role of Vice President of Corporate Development. The company updated its Leadership webpage to highlight Perica in the new role.
He will now report directly to Tim Cook. In his new role, he will be responsible for Apple’s mergers, acquisitions and strategic investing efforts.
The Apple Leadership webpage includes a brief biography of Perica. It notes how:
“Since joining Apple in 2009, he has overseen the successful integration of vital technologies and new businesses across hardware, software and services. Prior to Apple, Adrian worked at Goldman Sachs for eight years and before that, he worked at Deloitte Consulting and was an officer in the US Army. A Midwest native, Adrian holds a bachelor’s degree in Physics from the United States Military Academy at West Point and an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.”
Before his promotion, Perica’s role at Apple was Head of Mergers and Acquisitions. He had held the role since 2007. In addition to his work at Apple, he serves on the board of Didi Chuxing, the Chinese company often described as China’s answer to Uber. In 2016, Apple invested $1 billion in Didi Chuxing, seemingly confirming its interest in the automotive industry.
Perica joined Apple at a time when the company had little experience with mergers and acquisitions. Since then, the company has made a number of acquisitions. Of these, the highest profile was the $3 billion acquisition of Beats in 2014.
