In a surprising move, Apple is making it easier to transfer your playlists from Apple Music to YouTube Music. This is the first time the Cupertino company is offering a tool like this for Apple Music users.

If you are an Apple Music subscriber, the tool makes transferring your playlists to YouTube Music easy.

No Spotify support for now

Several third-party unofficial tools and services let you transfer your favorite playlists to and from Apple Music. However, many of them have a daily limit and require payment to migrate multiple playlists. Apple’s official Apple Music playlist transfer tool will make migration to YouTube Music easier, with the service being free to use. If you’re considering a subscription or switching plans, be sure to check out the latest Apple Music deals that could save you money. You might also enjoy this curated playlist for some fresh music choices.

Currently, the tool does not support other music streaming services, including one of Apple’s most vocal critics: Spotify. It’s unclear whether Apple will add support for other streaming services.

It can only transfer playlists, not your entire music library. Additionally, the tool does not transfer music files, non-collaborative shared playlists, or curated playlists. When migrating playlists, only songs available on YouTube Music will show up. Other audio files in a playlist, like podcasts or audio books, are not transferred.

What to know about using Apple Music to YouTube Music playlist transfer tool

Using the official Apple Music to YouTube Music playlist tool is easy. Head over to Apple’s Data and Privacy page and sign in to your Apple ID account. Then, select the “Transfer a copy of your data” option and follow the on-screen instructions. You’ll also need to log in to your Google account during migration.

When you use the transfer tool, Apple will email the address linked to the Apple account. You’ll also get an email after the transfer is complete.

If you update or create a new playlist in Apple Music, you must migrate it again to YouTube Music.
