In a literally royal musical celebration, Apple said King Charles III hosts a special radio show and playlist on Apple Music 1 titled “The King’s Music Room.” It commemorates Commonwealth Day, March 10. See King Charles’ playlist and watch his introductory video, below. This is the first time a reigning monarch has guest hosted on Apple Music, by the way.
“Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. I know that is also the case for so many others,” King Charles said. “It has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories flooding back from the deepest recesses of our memory, to comfort us in times of sadness, and to take us to distant places.”
“But perhaps, above all, it can lift our spirits to such a degree, and all the more so when it brings us together in celebration,” he added. “In other words, it brings us joy.”

‘The Kings Music Room’ Apple Music playlist commemorates Commonwealth Day on March 10
Recorded at Buckingham Palace, this one-off event will feature the monarch sharing personal anecdotes alongside a diverse playlist. It spans multiple genres, including Afrobeats, disco, reggae and even 1930s ballads, Apple said. Music enthusiasts can expect to hear selections from artists representing Commonwealth countries, including Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, RAYE, Davido and Grace Jones.
“You can see His Majesty’s wide-ranging enthusiasm for music in this playlist to mark Commonwealth Day,” said Errollyn Wallen, CBE, Master of The King’s Music Room. “The Commonwealth has produced more than its fair share of wonderful songs, singers, and musicians, and this fun and eclectic collection is a great reminder of this treasure trove of creativity.”

Live premiere and on demand
The special broadcast premieres live on Apple Music 1 on Monday, March 10 at 6 a.m. UK time (2 a.m. Pacific). For those unable to catch the initial airing, Apple will replay the show multiple times throughout Monday and Tuesday on both Apple Music 1 and Apple Music Hits stations. The playlist will also be available on demand for Apple Music subscribers.
Notably, the radio stations on Apple Music regularly feature various musicians and celebrities as guest hosts on a rotating schedule, but this marks the first time a reigning monarch has joined the roster.
Apple and the British royal family
This collaboration follows a strengthening relationship between Apple and the British royal family. In December, King Charles toured Apple’s new UK headquarters at Battersea Power Station alongside Apple CEO Tim Cook, highlighting the growing connection between the tech giant and the monarchy.
The King’s Music Room will be accessible for free through the Apple Music app, with no subscription required for the live radio broadcast. This special event offers a rare glimpse into the musical tastes of His Majesty while celebrating the cultural diversity of the Commonwealth through the universal language of music. And it’s just kind of funny and interesting that a monarch is playing DJ.
