Have you been waiting for years for Apple to finally update its Thunderbolt Display lineup with a sexy 4K or even 5K screen?

The wait might finally be over.

Thunderbolt Display stock is limited or unavailable at several Apple Stores in North America, Europe, Australia according to a new report. It’s been over five years since Apple updated its standalone monitor, and while we haven’t heard any rumors that an update is coming, it appears that the long-awaited refresh is finally on the way.

“Thunderbolt Display is available on a ship-to-store basis only at all or select locations in Albany, Buffalo, Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, Memphis, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, San Antonio, San Diego, Syracuse, and many other mid-sized cities and their surrounding areas,” reports MacRumors.

Dwindling supplies of Apple’s current Thunderbolt Display could indicate that the company plans to launch a gorgeous new monitor in the near future. With WWDC just weeks away, the timing could be perfect for Apple to appease fans with a 27-inch 5K monitor that takes design cues from the new Retina iMac.

It appears that Thunderbolt Displays are still in ready supply in some major cities. Apple Stores in Chicago, LA, New York, and San Francisco all have the monitor’s in stock, so the changes in supply could also simply indicate that Apple is dealing with fluctuations in its inventory.

We’ll have to wait until WWDC to find out for sure, but if you’ve been saving your pennies for a new monitor, you might want to wait a few more weeks before pulling the trigger on a purchase.
