Apple gives early glimpse of redesigned Regent Street store

An early preview of Apple’s redesigned London store reveals lots of new plants, simplified shelves and tables, as well as untethered iPhones and iPads that visitors can pick up and carry around the store.

Apple’s flagship Regent Street store, closed since June for the major remodel, is set to reopen Saturday. Early photos and a video tour show off the retail outlet’s uncluttered new look.

Apple told the Evening Standard that its goal was to open up the space so the store “feels like a town square” and serves as a “calming environment.” (The London news organization features a video tour of the new store.)

The new store features “avenues” that showcase products like MacBooks and iMacs. Some of the store’s other upgrades include smooth stone staircases and a giant video wall that greets customers as they walk in.

To draw in bigger crowds, Apple plans to host workshops for entrepreneurs and creative professionals in areas like photography and music. There will also be live acoustic musical performances as well as special screenings of music videos and “making of” films from iTunes.
