Anker Solix adds an ambitious new entry to the residential energy storage market with the Solix E10 whole-home backup system, the company said Wednesday. Anker’s direct challenge to established players like Tesla’s Powerwall, the new system offers homeowners multiple ways to maintain power during outages while potentially reducing energy costs.

Anker Solix E10 power system: 3 pathways to backup power

Anker Solix E10 whole-home backup system stands out in the crowded home battery market by offering three distinct configuration options to suit different homeowner needs and budgets. This flexibility in configuration makes the E10 particularly appealing for homeowners who want to start with basic backup capabilities and expand their system over time.

Here are three ways to use it:

  1. The system can function as a standalone battery backup, providing emergency power during grid outages.
  2. Or you can configure it as a solar-plus-storage system so you can generate and store renewable energy.
  3. The third option integrates the system with an existing generator, creating a hybrid backup solution. So it combines the instant response of battery power with the extended runtime of a traditional generator.

And while there’s no word on the system working natively with the Apple Home app, you can control it via Anker’s iOS app.

Modular and expandable design

Anker Solix E10 features a modular architecture starting with a 5kW base unit that includes a 6kWh battery module. What makes the system particularly scalable is its ability to expand up to 90kWh of total storage capacity by adding additional battery modules. This expandability means homeowners aren’t locked into their initial capacity choice and can grow their system as their energy needs increase or as they add more solar panels.

The system’s power output of 5kW continuous (with surge capacity higher) is sufficient to run essential household appliances during an outage, including refrigerators, lights, internet routers, and even some heating and cooling systems depending on their power requirements.

Smart features and competitive pricing

The E10 includes smart energy management features accessible through Anker’s mobile app. That lets homeowners monitor their energy production, consumption and battery status in real-time. You can program the system to optimize energy use based on time-of-use electricity rates. So you might reduce energy bills by storing cheaper off-peak power for use during expensive peak hours.

Anker has priced the base Solix E10 system competitively in the home battery market. The base system starts at about  $3,799 – $4,299. But exact pricing varies depending on configuration and installation requirements. You can get it on Amazon or Anker’s direct sales channel, with various package options that include different numbers of battery modules.

With its modular design, multiple configuration options and competitive positioning, Anker Solix E10 gives Apple users and other homeowners a compelling new option in the growing residential energy storage market.
