Apple is offering to replace the batteries of faulty iPhone 6s handsets, produced between September and October 2015.
In a new page on its official website, Apple notes that it, “has determined that a very small number of iPhone 6s devices may unexpectedly shut down. This is not a safety issue and only affects devices within a limited serial number range.”

The devices in question stop working despite appearing to have maximum charge. Any users suffering from this fault can take their iPhones into an Apple store to get a replacement unit. If getting into an official Apple retail store is difficult, users can also call Apple’s support number or visit an authorized Apple repair store.
As you’d expect, Apple recommends that users start by backing up their data, and says that they should also wipe their devices before handing their iPhones in for replacement. If you’ve got a cracked screen, or other body damage, Apple may first ask that users get this repaired before seeking a replacement.
This seems to suggest that Apple will replace the entire iPhone, rather than just fixing the battery, but this could be on a case-by-case basis.
This is the second repair program Apple has launched recently, after last week finally responding to the “touch disease” issue plaguing older iPhone 6 Plus units, by giving users the option of getting their handset fixed for a flat fee of $149.

I purchased two new iPhone 6S for me and my wife last year on Black Friday. We are both experiencing the same problem with our phones. Despite the phone showing at least half charge, the phone will suddenly shut down. Trying to restart the phone results in the “dead battery” graphic. Once the phone is plugged in to a power source and restarted, the phone again shows the battery at half (or more) charge and the phone continues to work as expected (until the next mystery shutdown). Is this the same issue that is being addressed by Apple?
I experienced this issue with my iPhone 6S, when I had a 6S. I took it into an Apple Store, and had to really push the Apple Store employees on the issue, but they did replace the iPhone. Also I rang AppleCare Support and they ran remote diagnostics on the device and said things were fine, despite the iPhone 6S displaying near identical issues to what you have explained. It would just randomly shut off and say “Dead Battery” despite having 30% – 50% battery left. What’s so frustrating is that they clearly know this is a problem but have not told their Apple Employees to replace if this is stated as an issue.
It’s been one year since I decided to abandon my last work and i couldn’t be happier now… I started doing a job from my house, over a website I discovered online, several hours /a day, and I earn much more than i did on my office work… Check i got for last month was for 9000 bucks… Awesome thing about this gig is that i have more time for my family… CHILP.IT/728813e
No SN range? I have an odd issue where I noticed my iphone will just die off between 20-30% charge. All my others have always gone as low as 1% before shutting off. I wanted to see if I had a SN in common.
Mine started doing this since the update to 10.1.1
Just spoke to Apple support online via chat, and they have said that my iPhone 6s is one of the faulty units….. Sheesh! Now all I need to do is find a free day that there is space in an Apple store to take it in!
Gordon, what’s your serial number?
