1Keyboard App: Use Your Mac’s Keyboard To Type On Your iPad, iPhone, Other Mac

1Keyboard looks like a great way to avoid having to spend $100 on Logitech’s K811 Easy Switch keyboard. It’s an app that takes the input from your Mac’s keyboard and sends it to the iDevice of you choice, and it costs exactly $0.

Install 1Keyboard and you get yet another icon up in your Macs menubar. Click it and you see a list of available devices, including iPhones, iPad and even Apple TVs. You can type away as if your keyboard were directly connected to the iPad, and you can even paste the texts fro your Mac’s clipboard straight into a document on your device.

It works via Bluetooth, so you first have to pair your devices. From then on you can connect using the menubar icon or a keyboard shortcut (I’m using the fn-F5 key on my Apple keyboard). While you’re typing a bezel featuring you device’s icon appears on the Mac’s screen.

Switching back to the Mac happens when you hit the escape key, or use the ⌘-Tab app switching shortcut. There may well be more keystrokes to do the same thing.

Like I said, the app is free, but you can pay $7 to remove the typing character limit and add support for multiple iDevices.
