It’s been a great week for iOS gamers, with fantastic new releases from Gameloft, Chillingo, Sega and Telltale Games. Picking our favorites has been some task.

Here’s this week’s roundup — featuring the return of Sonic in a brand new arcade kart racer, an iPad platformer that uses your iPhone as a controller, and the final episode of Monkey Island.

New iPod Touch to Launch in 2011 After All?

Shortly after Apple released the first beta of iOS 5 earlier this month, some users went hunting through its internals and found references to the next-generation iPad and iPhone. However, there was one thing missing — and that was any mention of a new iPod touch.

The news led some to believe that Apple may delay the launch of the fifth-generation device until 2012, but it seems those first perusing the iOS 5 files just didn’t look hard enough.

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Hits App Store on Sonic’s 20th Birthday

20 years ago today, on June 23, 1991, the first Sonic game hit the shelves and the loveable little blue hedgehog that would become Sega’s flagship character was born — ready to do battle with Nintendo’s Mario.

Today, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is available on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, over a year after the game first hit consoles. But it was well worth the wait!

This Week’s Must-Have iOS Games: Touchgrind BMX, The Heist, Siege Hero & More!

Put the skateboard to one side and become a BMX pro – performing spectacular tricks in beautifully crafted locations all over the world.

The Heist is currently famous for its overwhelming popularity that has helped it knock Angry Birds off the top spot of the App Store’s paid chart. Featuring a collection of mind-bending puzzles that you must solve in order to get your hands on the valuable prize inside the vault.

Siege Hero boasts gameplay similar to Angry Birds, in that you must destroy a group of enemies protected by glass, rocks and timber. However, instead of taking aim at a group of ugly pigs, vikings are your enemies, and rocks replace the birds as your ammo.

This Week’s Must-Have iOS Games: Tuned, Storm in a Teacup, Bumpy Road & More!

Kicking off this week’s list of must-have iOS games is one of the most enjoyable music quiz games in the App Store called Tuned. It’s is an innovative new game for the iPhone that offers music lovers an endless number of entertaining quizzes from just about every genre there is.

Storm in a Teacup is an adorable little platform adventure in which you navigate your way through magical lands in a teacup, avoiding the bad guys and solving puzzles in an effort to complete every level.

Bumpy Road is another wonderful platformer that features a unique play mechanic and tells a wonderful love story. Despite its slightly soppy storyline, it’s brilliantly entertaining.
