With iOS 6, Apple is looking to replace Google Maps with their own Cupertino solution that also provides 3-D maps of cities across the globe. Google isn’t going down without a fight though, so they just updated their Google Earth app for iOS to include 3-D maps before people get comfy with Apple’s Flyover solution in iOS 6.
Apple’s Flyover feature in iOS 6’s new Maps app gives users a really cool way to explore their favorite cities. 3D renderings of major metropolitan areas let you zoom in and out to view buildings in greater detail — kind of like you’re really there.
Right now, there are a limited number of cities that Apple has created 3D renders of (but more are on the way). Here’s a look at all the cities currently supporting Flyover in the new Maps app.
The new Maps app that Apple showed off at WWDC yesterday has made it pretty clear that the company will be ditching Google Maps in iOS 6. That means beautiful new 3D maps, voice guided turn-by-turn navigation, and more. But before you get too excited, just remember this: As soon as Google leaved, so does Street View.
