In one important respect the Apple battery case is unlike any other I’ve ever tried. Every other case I’ve tried only does its stuff when your phone is nearly drained. Then you either have to switch over to the case energy supply manually, or the case is supposed to sense that it’s time for it to take over. Problems: you may not notice that your Phone’s running down and make the manual switch, or the case may fail to sense that it should make the switch itself. I’ve personally experienced both problems, and wound up with a dead phone on my hands.

The Apple case, on the other hand, drains the case first and only taps the Phone’s own battery after that, so this switching problem never arises. Brilliant design move. The only possible drawback is that the Apple case is sometimes a trifle warm to the touch, but not enough so to be an annoyance.
