iPad Mini Case Manufacturers Stop Production After Newest Leaks Show Design Changes

By

Suppliers just can't make the iPad mini's rear shell fast enough, apparently.
Suppliers just can't make the iPad mini's rear shell fast enough, apparently.

Some design changes to the new iPad Mini that was revealed via photos of leaked parts has halted the production of iPad Mini cases of at least one major case manufacturer. We’ve seen numerous cases and physical mockups of the rumored iPad Mini, so it’s not clear which changes have caused the production delays.

According to Japanese site Macotakara, a large OEM mobile accessory maker noticed that the round shape of the iPad Mini has changed and they may have to drop their designs based on leaked iPad Mini parts.

ReadyCase For iPhone Packs Every Gadget Known To Modern Man

By

Some gadgets pick one thing, and do only that thing. And they do it very, very well. Other gadgets try to pack in everything possible, and they usually end up doing everything badly. This is called the Swiss Army Knife Approach (SAKA), and if you ever wondered why the Swiss are neutral in all wars, now you know.

The ReadyCase takes the latter approach, and like any good SAKA device, it’s way more fun to marvel at the amount of widgets the makers packed in than it would ever be to use.

Pad&Quill’s Little Pocket Book For iPhone 5

By

The iPhone isn’t the only thing that looks more handsome when it gets taller and thinner. Bookbindery cases get better looking too, as you can see with event he quickest glance and Pad&Quill’s new Little Pocket Book. Stretched lengthwise and squashed a little depth-wise, it’s “thinnest we have ever made,” says P&Q honcho Brian Holmes.

Floating Dry Bag Protects Your iPhone From The Outdoors

By

1348574795.jpg

Remember when Buster found an iPhone at the bottom of a river while he was floating down it on an inner-tube? The previous owner had the right idea: he sealed it in a plastic bag to keep out the elements. But he forgot one thing: Even in a bag, the short, heavy, ugly iPhone 4 will sink like, well, like last year's crappy iPhone.

What he should have used was Coghlan's Dry Pouch.

Super-Flexible Case Will Probably Fit Every Phone You Ever Own

By

Some gadget accessories just keep coming back, getting useful again after they've been sat at the back of a kitchen drawer of a closet for a few months, or even a few years. I have an acrylic business-card display thingy which has done duty as an iPad 1 stand, a speaker hook, a phone charging station and –right now — an iPad 3 movie-watching stand. And I thought €8 was expensive for a piece of bent Perspex.

The ItFits looks like that kind of accessory. It bends to fit almost any small phone-sized gadget, and acts as both a stand and a clip. Let's take a look:

This Horrible Picture Proves You Might Need An iPhone 5 Case After All

By

1zoykg7

There are many who will tell you that you don’t need a case for your iPhone 5. Heck, even Apple thinks that between the new aluminum back and the strengthened Gorilla Glass 2, there’s no point in a case.

But as this picture shows — taken by a store owner with access to some iPhone 5 display units — the new aluminum back scratches just as easily as it ever did if you attack it with a hard enough object. In this case, it’s the iPhone 5’s liquid metal SIM card tray pin, which to be fair, is one of the hardest metals out there. The edge, though, was scratched up using simple keys.

In other words, depending what kind of pocket you’ll be shoving your iPhone 5 into, you may well want to invest in a case after all, no matter what people say.

iPhone 5 Cases Available From Incase, Otterbox, Incipio, And Others [Roundup]

By

iphone_2

Apple unveiled the iPhone 5 to the world this past Wednesday. Besides the privileged few, most third-party case/accessory makers saw the iPhone 5’s final design at the same time as everyone else: during Apple’s media event. Apple’s thick veil of secrecy hasn’t kept case manufacturers from getting ready, however. Rumors and part leaks predicted the iPhone 5’s look and feature set pretty precisely during the months leading up to last week’s unveiling.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 5 started Friday, September 14th, and the new smartphone goes on sale officially this Friday, September 21st. If you’re in the market for iPhone 5 cases, then companies like Incase, Otterbox, Incipio, and others have you covered.

These Are The Complete Blueprints For The iPhone 5 [Image]

By

iphone5blueprints

The only people that really need to know all of the iPhone 5’s dimensions down to the nearest hundredth of a millimeter are case manufacturers, and rabid fanboys that can’t devour enough Apple knowledge. Apple posted the blueprints for the iPhone 5 in the developer center, but for some reason they can be accessed by anyone even if you don’t have an account.

The full high-res blueprints show crazy small details, like the degree of the proximity cone for the camera, and the difference in thickness between the antenna band and the display screen. It’s everything you’d need to know to make your own iPhone 5 case. To access the entire high-res blueprint PDF you can click here.

Why Apple Is Killing Off The Bumper, And Why You Won’t Need A Case For Your iPhone 5

By

MB057-01

Apple quietly killed off a lot of things yesterday, including Ping, the old “watch-style” iPod nano, the iPhone 3Gs and more.

When we looked at Apple.com, though, we were surprised to notice that Apple seems to have decided with this generation to kill off the Bumper Case as well. They still sell the rubber-band-style case for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, but they have opted not to stretch it to fit the iPhone 5.

Turns out, though, there’s an excellent reason why Apple didn’t update the bumper case for the iPhone 5. It no longer needs it.

The New York Hong Kong Case Is My Favorite iPad Case So Far, And It’s Cheap [Review]

By

cult_logo_featured_image_missing_default1920x1080

Ever since the iPad 3’s magnet-reversal killed the ability for my Skech Porter case to wake the screen, I have been looking for an iPad case I can keep on all the time. The criteria are as follows, in no particular order:

  • Slim and light.
  • Functional, but not too complex.
  • Very good looking.
  • Magnet-enabled
  • Embossed map of New York or Hong Kong on the outside.

The last of these was just a joke, but the New York Hong Kong (NYHK) cases includes it and everything else on the list. In fact, if not for one important niggle (which is the fault of the iPad 3 itself), then the NYHK could be just about the best slimline folio case I have yet tried.

Gripster, The iPad Handle Cool Enough For A Hipster

By

cult_logo_featured_image_missing_default1920x1080

Gadgets with handles are dorky as hell: just ask anyone who owned one of the original Toilet-Seat iBooks about the teasing they endured. But handles are also, well, dead handy – just ask those same iBook owners.

The folks at Native Union have tried to mitigate the inherent dorkiness of the Gripster iPad case by picturing it being held by hot, hot models in the product photos. The usefulness, though, needs no disguise or apologies.

iPhone Case Cleverly Carries Charging Cable [Kickstarter]

By

wpid-Photo-07092012-1200.jpg
Ultra thin, apparently. Also: Pat.pending.

It used to be that if your phone ran out of juice, you could just pop into the nearest bar or cafe and ask “Do you have a Nokia charger?”, and the waitron would hand you one of the needle-tipped jacks from some cupboard or drawer.

Now, things have moved on. Battery life is measured in hours, not days, and Nokia is going the way of RIM and if a bar has an iPhone charger, it’s likely the bartender is using it to charge his own iPhone.

What you need is a charger that is always with you. What you need is the Case:Lynk.

TDK Wireless Charging Speaker Does Just That

By

This speaker will wirelessly charge your iPhone.

Wouldn’t it be cool if you could drop your iPhone or iPad on top of your speaker and have it charge as it pumps out the tunes? That’s the promise of TDK’s Wireless Charging Speaker, a product with a name about as self-evident as it gets.

First iPhone 5 Cases Show Up In AT&T’s System

By

iPhone-5-case-1

The iPhone 5 is coming, which means iPhone 5 cases are coming, and unlike third-party accessory makers that need access to the specs of Apple’s still-secret rejiggered Dock Connector, case makers have had accurate access to the next iPhone’s dimensions and port layout for months.

No surprise, then, that the first third-party iPhone 5 cases and screen protectors are starting to show up in AT&T’s system. Unless you love Snoopy, though, the iLuv wallet case previewed above is probably the best of them.

Griffin’s Military-Grade iPhone Case With Kindergarten-Grade Colors

By

wpid-Photo-31082012-1459.jpg
So tasteful.. Which soldier wouldn't want one of these?

Clearly the “military” part in Griffin’s Military Grade Survivor case for the iPhone doesn’t refer to the color. While olive drab is an option, the majority of the rugged cases come in candy colors more suited to a pre-schooler’s toy box than the killing fields of, well, whichever countries the U.S is currently at war with.

This Lightweight Felt iPad Bag Is Almost Ideal. Almost [Review]

Given the number of iPad cases that arrive at my door each week for review, you might be surprised that I still buy the things. And a couple of weeks ago when I picked up a natty little felt iPad bag in a local store, I couldn’t believe the price. At just €20 (around $25), it’s a steal.

Leaked Cases Reveal The iPod Touch Might Be Getting A Serious Upgrade This Year

By

ipodtouchcase

We’ve seen lots of leaked parts for the upcoming iPhone, and even some cases for the rumored iPad Mini, but not a peep has been heard about a redesigned iPod Touch, until now. Pictures of new cases claiming to be designed for the new iPod Touch hit the web this morning, and they reveal that the fifth-generation might undergo some serious design changes when it hits the market later this year.

The cases show that the body of the 5th-gen iPod Touch might be less tapered than the current version, and it also features a mysterious hole on the back of the device that we’re not sure about.

Chinese Cases Gives Us Our First Look At What The 7.85-Inch iPad mini Will Probably Look Like [Gallery]

By

ipad-mini-thin-bezel-case-leaked-china

It’s foolish to put too much stock in “leaked” images of third-party cases when it comes to predicting what the next Apple device is going to look like, but these iPad mini cases found in China really do look like the real thing: these aren’t just made for a shrunk-down-to-seven-inches iPad, but for a new tablet that is more like a big iPhone when it comes to its bezel design.

Other interesting details of these cases include a rear camera, no LED flash, a front facing Facetime camera, a smalller dock connector, and volume rockers on the right side of the device. Gizchina, where these pictures originate, speculate that a hole in the center of the case is meant to attach a “lanyard,” but that’s just silly: Apple wouldn’t ship a product with a laynard. That’s a hole for a microphone, same as you’ll find in the current iPad.

More images below. What do you think?

R*Case Might Be The Most Practical iPad Case Ever [Review]

By

wpid-Photo-23082012-1612.jpg
The white case might get dirty, but it's not as dirty as my walls.

We I first wrote about the R*Case, I remarked with typical hyperbolic overstatement that it “looks very useful.” Well, the kind folks at TouchNS sent one (or actually four, along with a bunch of really bad styluses) for review, and it turns out I was right. In fact, it is now my favorite iPad skin.

Book-Sniffers Rejoice: Dodocase for Kindle Touch

By

wpid-Photo-20082012-1735.jpg
As close as you'll get to the feel of a paper book.

The various bookbindery cases for the iPad are great and all, but I always found them to be a little impractical. They look lovely, they offer a ton of protection, but they do tend to get in the way. But the Kindle, made to be read like a book, seems tailor-made for a book-like cover. And here it is, the Hardcover for Kindle Touch from Dodo.

$25 Buys You $50 At Incase [Deals-Ends Today!]

By

incase3_640

Unique deal here today. For $25 you get to spend $50 at incase. If you’re a Mac, iPhone, or iPad owner you’ve probably seen (or own) some incase before. The Apple Store stocks their gear, so do most other places who sell Apple gear. Why?

Quality.

I own several things from incase, including a bag that I’ve abused but still looks great. And funny that we should be talking about incase, because Charlie Sorrel just highlighted an incase product in his recent blogging from the iPad post—the incase Origami Workstation.

This deal ends today! Seriously get it. The Origami Case is as awesome as I thought!
