Ed Hardy has been writing full-time about tech for 25 years, and using it for much longer than that. His intro to Apple was a Macintosh SE/30 (which he still has), but now he uses a 13-inch iPad Pro as his primary computer.
That's because he's a "tablet first" type of guy. Rather than use a Macbook, he connects a keyboard case to the iPad. And instead of a desktop Mac, he connects his tablet to a 27-inch display and full-size keyboard. (So don't try to tell him that everyone has to use a Mac to be productive.)
Before coming to Cult of Mac, Ed wrote for NotebookReview, TabletPCReview and Brighthand, as well as other sites.

Apple ran the first test of its new Background Security Improvements feature on Tuesday. Registered developers can access the initial security patch, though it does nothing aside from test the new system.
The eventual goal is enable Apple to distribute security patches separated from software updates.
Add terabytes of secure, high-speed storage to your iPhone for recording ProRes video. Photo: BMX
A ByteSize SSD from BMX is small enough to fit snugly along the bottom of a iPhone with USB-C, adding up to 2TB of storage. The Ultra and Pro variants offer fast enough connections for recording high-res, high-frame rate ProRes video.
But what really sets the premium variant of the new portable SSDs apart from rivals is support for Apple FindMy tracking system. Plus, multiple models also include fingerprint biometric security.

There’s a fun way to personalize your iPhone 17 Pro: tiny stickers around the camera. Social media is blowing up with pictures from people showing off how cool their handset looks with the new decorations.
The trend may have started in Korea, where it’s part of ponku — personalizing phones, cases, laptops, etc., with stickers. A recent iPhone 17 Pro ad made by a Korean wireless carrier certainly added fuel to the fire.

Satechi OntheGo 7-in-1 Multiport Adapter helps creators and travelers do what they need with their iPhone. Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac
Your iPhone is a powerful computer held back by its single port. Connect the Satechi OntheGo 7-in-1 Multiport Adapter, and you can connect to a wide range of accessories — external monitors, SSDs and more — all without adding too much bulk. It really builds upon the phone’s capabilities.
I’m not saying it’ll turn your iPhone into a mini MacBook, but if you’re toting a laptop on trips simply to watch TV shows or give a presentation on a large screen, this hub is for you.
Plus, it stands out by connecting to the MagSafe magnets built into your iPhone, so the accessory conveniently clings to the back of your device.
I tested it out with my iPhone 17 to see what the multiport adapter has to offer. Here’s what I found.

If you’re strongly tempted by an iPhone 17, but haven’t yet found a reason to make the jump, then you must not realize how amazing the phone’s new Center Stage selfie camera is. Even better: The base model iPhone 17 gets this great feature, not just the Pro variants.

Here’s what to do if you want to restore Safari’s toolbar to the way it used to be.
Apple might struggle to make enough folding iPhone units to meet demand. Concept image: ChatGPT
Apple’s long-rumored folding iPhone — expected to be one of the most significant new product launches in years — is generating strong buzz, with a respected analyst warning that consumer interest could far outpace Apple’s ability to supply the device when it hits the market.
And a separate report may have revealed the sizes of the two screens coming in the first foldable iOS device. The large internal display is what’s expected to drive demand.

An iMac with an OLED display is in development, according to a fresh supply-chain leak. This would bring a significant upgrade to the look of Apple’s all-in-one desktop computer for the consumer market.

iPhone screenshots can be simple again. Change a setting, and you can get rid of the complex new system Apple created for iOS 26 to capture an image of your iPhone screen.
Here’s what to do. Don’t worry — switching back is easy.
The iMac Pro might be back with a huge processor upgrade for professional users — the M5 Max. Image: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac
The iMac Pro could be poised for a major return — years after Apple discontinued the power all-in-one computer. This time, the professional desktop will be powered by Apple’s next-generation M5 Max chip, according to information found in internal Apple software.
It would be a change in strategy for Apple, but it seems the company is at least exploring the idea of an updated all-in-one desktop for the pro and prosumer markets.
Install iOS 26.2 now to protect your iPhone from newly identified threats and security vulnerabilities. Image: ChatGPT
Experts urge iPhone users to install iOS 26.2 as soon as possible, warning that the update includes important security patches designed to protect devices from newly identified threats.
New iOS versions usually patch security vulnerabilities, but the need is unusually urgent this time because Apple says hackers are already exploiting the security holes patched in iOS 26.2.
You don't have to use the iPhone's new slide-to-stop gesture for alarms. Graphic: Cult of Mac
Apple recently changed the way you turn off alarms on your iPhone, switching to a new slide-to-stop gesture. The new method is designed to help you. But if you just can’t stand it, going back to the old way — stopping alarms with a button — is easy.
The UK will soon propose OS-level iPhone age verification to block nude images, aiming to protect children from online explicit content. Image: Google Gemini
The UK government is reportedly pushing ahead with plans to ask Apple and Google to block access to nude images on smartphones unless a user’s age has been verified. Ministers say the proposal is aimed at protecting children from explicit material, but the move is a dramatic shift as it could shift responsibility onto technology companies.
Information leaking out of London indicates the Home Office wants age checks built directly into iOS and Android, as well as direct blocks on taking and viewing nude images.
In this, they will have a surprising ally: porn websites.
The iMac Pro made quite splash in 2017, and there are occasional calls to bring it back. Photo: Apple
December 14, 2017: The much-anticipated iMac Pro finally reaches customers many months after Apple’s announced the product. With a built-in 27-inch, 5K display and an Intel Xeon processor, the high-end desktop combines the features of an iMac and a Mac Pro.
It is beautiful and far more powerful than earlier iMacs, but is destined to stay in Apple’s product lineup only a relatively short time.
