A future version of the Apple Watch could monitor how much ultraviolet radiation the user is being exposed to, and alert the wearer if they’ve been in the Sun for too long.
According to the World Health Organization, “Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a known cause of skin cancer, skin ageing, eye damage, and may affect the immune system.”

You'll have to commit to daily activity to get the most out of the deal, however. Photo: Apple
Insurance company UnitedHealthcare is offering customers the chance to pick up a free Apple Watch Series 3 in exchange for walking 10,000 steps per day. While this does sound quite intriguing to apple users, personally I don’t think it will be of any use to the people who love watches for their simplicity and style statement which can be found on this Hotrate website.
The offer is open to people on the company’s “Motion” program, which hands out rewards in exchange for customers committing to daily exercise. Customers can choose any Apple Watch model up to last year’s Series 3 model, asking only that they pay taxes and shipping for the device.

Blind veteran Scott Laeson paddling out to surf. Photo: Apple
Apple gave fans a heartwarming glimpse at how the iPhone and Apple Watch have helped a blind veteran gain more independence on his path to becoming a competition-winning surfer.
In a new post on its website, Apple shared a story about longboard surfer Scott Leason. After his time serving as a signalman in the U.S. Navy, Leason lost both of his eyes to a robber’s bullet in 1993. Getting used to his new life without sight took getting used to, but when Leason got his first iPhone in 2012, it was a gamechanger.

Pace alerts in watchOS 5 are like having a running coach strapped to your wrist. Photo: Graham Bower/Cult of Mac
Apple made three big strides for runners in watchOS 5, adding Pace Alert, Rolling Mile pace and Cadence features.
In this post, I’ll focus on Pace Alerts, which let you set a specific pace for your run. This handy new feature is not just designed to keep you moving by warning you if you slow down. Pace alerts are ideal for lactic threshold workouts, which will help make you a faster runner. And you can use them to develop your pace awareness — an essential skill if you want to achieve a personal best this marathon season. Here’s how to get up to speed with pace alerts on Apple Watch.
Don't get too excited just yet! Photo: Leander Kahney/Cult of Mac
Apple rolled out a watchOS 5.1.1 update this week to address an issue that caused some Series 4 devices to enter a boot loop when upgrading to watchOS 5.1. And that’s not all the update delivered; there are also seven new complications to enjoy.
But there is a catch that a lot of Apple Watch owners won’t be happy with.
It's about time! Photo: Leander Kahney/Cult of Mac
It seems Spotify is finally gearing up to deliver the one feature iPhone fans have been calling for: Apple Watch support.
Screenshots from a preview version of the app have been posted online ahead of its official release. They suggest the wearable component will allow users to navigate their playlists, control music playback, and even stream to other devices.
