If you purchase the iPhone Duo from the Apple Store, Apple will have a little surprise for you. Apparently, Apple retail stores can customize the foldable’s boot screen with the buyer’s name.
So instead of just a “Hello,” users will see a “Hello, [insert name]” when they turn on the device for the first time.
A $3,000 iPhone that knows your name
Apple already allows customers ordering devices from its online store to have the back of their iPad, AirTag and certain other devices laser-engraved. But with the iPhone Duo, the company is going a step further.
For the first time, it will customize the device boot screen with the buyer’s name.
Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman says this option will only be available to iPhone Duo customers purchasing the device through Apple’s retail store. It will appear alongside the “Hello” when they first boot the device, adding a nice touch of personalization to the $3,000 foldable.
This customization option will be exclusively available to iPhone Duo customers in the US and will support both English and Spanish.
A personal touch before you open the box
According to leaker @itspdfu, Apple is using the same in-box updater in its stores to customize the iPhone Duo’s boot screen. The company also added a new Macintosh Skeletal font in iOS 27 for this purpose.
Very cool use of the in-box updater. It’ll be interesting to see if Apple expands the program. The new renderer already knows “Hello” in 49 languages.

With the boot screen customized, the “Hello” greeting will not cycle through languages as it typically does. For readability purposes, the name will always start on its own line.
