Can you have too many monitors? [Setups]

How many large displays is “overdoing it” in a computer setup? Redditor dm-86 suggested they’d gone too far with four, but that only ties one of our other favorites.

Some commenters joked around that they saw plenty of space for more in the imposing setup, or bank of screens, if you will.

Clearly the upper left and right spaces could be crammed with two more screens, two folks said. And with an iPad in the mix, another added, that’s three more screens. For a grand total of seven.

Too many monitors? Four should cover it, thanks

Dm-86 is, no doubt, enjoying his visual extravaganza – and not only because of the displays. He runs a 27-inch iMac Pro with an 8-core Xeon processor, 32 GB of RAM, a Radeon Vega 56 8 GB graphics card and a 1 TB SSD. Thata’s some computing power.

The iMac is paired with a Vesa mounting kit made for that model. With the computer, dm-86 enters input and navigates using a Magic Keyboard and a Magic Trackpad.

Center stage

In addition to the iMac and its display, dm-86 runs a big, curved widescreen and two 27-inch 4Ks. The big monitor is a 40-inch Dell Ultrasharp U4021QW 5K. Its supporting duo are two 27-inch Dell UltraSharp U2718Q monitors.

For the 40-inch behemoth, dm-86 brought in a Newstar curved screen desk mount. But the two Dells are sitting on the desk. “Positioning is too hard with an arm” with those, dm-86 said.

Not willing to let the brilliant visuals go without some quality audio, dm-86 has a pair of Edifier R1800 series active bookshelf speakers.
