Do “certified freak, seven days a week” or “Pour up the whole damn seal, I’ma get lazy” mean anything to you?
If you’re anything like other Apple Music listeners around the world, they certainly do. That’s because they’re from Cardi B’s “WAP” and Roddy Ricch’s “The Box,” two of the songs atop the newly released “Most-Read Lyrics of 2020” list on Apple’s streaming music service. And there’s more data where that came from!
Appearing on the Browse tab of the Music app today, Apple has debuted several lists involving Apple Music. These include the aforementioned songs with the most-read lyrics, top 100 Shazam’d songs (number one is Tones and I’s “Dance Monkey”), and an assortment of top 10 songs, based on location.
The overall global top 10 songs of the year are as follows:
“The Box” by Roddy Ricch
“Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd
“Dance Monkey” by Tones And I
“ROCKSTAR” (feat. Roddy Ricch) by DaBaby
“Life Is Good” (feat. Drake) by Future
“Don’t Start Now” by Dua Lipa
“Circles” by Post Malone
“Everything I Wanted” by Billie Eilish
“Woah| by Lil Baby
“Ballin’” by Mustard & Roddy Ricch
Unlike some of Apple’s year-end lists, this one is based on listener data, rather than Apple’s curated picks. As far as presentation goes, it’s fairly straightforward stuff — with the lists presented in the form of playlists that you can dive into. Although it’s a minor thing, I appreciate that Apple has made it easy to listen to the top picks of different countries, rather than automatically defaulting to your location. That means that, if you’re in the mood to see what’s topping Apple Music charts in, say, France, it’s just a tap away.
The lists are available in the Apple Music app now.
