Apple has registered the website AppleOriginalProductions.com, underlining the company’s continuing push into Apple TV+ Originals.

Currently the web address does not go to any website. It could be an example of Apple defensively registering an address to stop others from using it. Alternatively, it could at some point be used to redirect to Apple TV+ or to a dedicated production company making shows for Apple.

Apple continues to pursue original content — called Apple Originals — for its Apple TV+ strategy. The company refers to Apple TV+ as “the first all-original video subscription service and home for today’s most imaginative storytellers.”

It has pushed back on the idea of acquiring existing content in the form of hit shows like Friends or The Office as many of its rivals have done. “We love Friends, but it’s not what Apple TV+ is about,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said at a shareholders meeting in March. “Apple TV+ is about original programming. It doesn’t feel right for Apple to just go out and take a rerun.”

Current rumors claim Apple could launch bundles including Apple TV+ and other Apple subscription services. These could launch under the name Apple One. They may launch as soon as October, alongside the new iPhone 12 handsets.

Apple’s website registrations don’t always give indications of the company’s future plans. As Apple Insider, which reported this latest AppleOriginalProductions.com registration notes, Apple registered https://privacyisimportant.com in 2019. However, it has yet to do anything with it.

On other occasions, Apple registrations most certainly have turned out to be prophetic (at least, for those trying to guess Apple’s business by looking at the web domains it registers.) For instance, Apple acquired the domain name www.iphone.org back in 1999. That was eight years before Apple actually wound up shipping a smartphone.
