Not all of us have a need for speed with our iPhones, but we like to watch a good race.

So David Rahimi, better known as PhoneBuff on YouTube, got hold of an unused, factory-wrapped iPhone 6s Plus and pitted it against an iPhone 11 Pro.

The iPhone 6s Plus performed tasks faster than any smartphone in 2015 and 2016 as tested by PhoneBuff, whose channel draws more than 1.1 million subscribers. The iPhone 6s was even faster than some new smartphones in 2017.

But at this moment, in Silicon Valley years, 2017 is ancient history. If you compare the specs of the two phones – the A13 Bionic chip versus the Apple A9 chip from 2015 and 4GB of RAM versus 2 – you can probably guess which phone was faster.

With stopwatches set and both running the latest version of iOS 13, the iPhone 11 Pro was more than two minutes faster than the 6s Plus. Tasks performed included editing a photo in SnapSeed, opening a document and exporting a video clip to Adobe Rush, where the elder iPhone lost a considerable amount of time.

“For a phone this old, it is actually doing better than I thought it would,” Rahimi tells his viewers. “That’s not to say that it is anywhere close to the 11 Pro. It just goes to show you how far smartphones have come.”
