Apple Music’s lyric visualizer has arrived on Mac with the second beta release of macOS 10.15.4 Wednesday.
The feature, which gives users scrolling, karaoke-style song lyrics, was introduced as a much-lauded feature with iOS 13. Now Apple is porting it bringing it to macOS users as well.
Time-synced lyrics were a welcome improvement to iOS 13 last fall. They let you follow lyrics in real-time as the songs play. Apple recently teamed up with Genius for a similarly lyrics-conscious video series, featuring top artists discussing their songs.
To access the Apple Music lyrics feature on Mac, macOS 10.15.4 users should look out for the speech bubble quotation button in the top right corner while a song is playing. Not all songs support time-synced lyrics. However, this has clearly been a big hit feature for Apple so it’s rolling out new songs all the time. Most new releases support the feature from day one.
MacOS 10.15.4 is likely to be publicly released next month. At that point, live lyrics will be available to everyone; not just a few beta testers.
In the meantime, others are keen to, err, borrow the feature from Apple. Spotify has been testing the feature with a small number of users since last November. This week, it rolled it out to its 271 million users worldwide.
