After finally bringing Photoshop to iPad, Adobe says it will roll out a new smartphone camera app with a slew of creative lenses and AI powers that come at the point of capture.
The upcoming Adobe Photoshop Camera seems to borrow the lens-swapping feature of Hipstamatic. Adobe promises it will give users “Photoshop-grade magic right from the viewfinder.”
Adobe introduced the Photoshop Camera app this morning in Los Angelas at the annual Adobe MAX conference. The company did not release details, like whether there is a price to download, additional in-app purchases or date of release. The software giant did create a signup page for a limited number of preview versions of the app.
Adobe Photoshop Camera for social media
Unlike Adobe’s mobile apps for Photoshop and Lightroom, Photoshop Camera is geared toward the immediacy of social media. It will allow quick, stylized edits for posting shortly after capture. It will, more quickly and automatically, apply Photoshop-like adjustments for dynamic range, exposure and tonality.
The app will use artificial intelligence to analyze the shooter’s subject matter to determine the ideal lens and effects. Of course, the app lets you dismiss its suggestions and gives you the power to changes lenses and effects.
Features include distortion removal and “portrait relighting,” which sounds similar to the iPhone camera’s native Portrait lighting features.
Photoshop Camera also comes with a series of filters with names like Boom, Mixed Media, Pop Art and Night Shift. They add overlays of images, colors and effects to images. Adobe also partnered with pop sensation Billie Eilish for a series of limited-edition lenses inspired by some of her songs and music videos.
