In a spoiler for what Apple might unveil today at its Worldwide Developers Conference, a placeholder app has appeared for “Files” in the App Store.

There are no details about exactly what the app will offer, but it supports only 64-bit architecture, in line with reports that Apple will ditch support for 32-bit apps.

File management is something many iOS fans have been wanting for years. Adding this capability would help cement Apple’s mobile platform as a serious productivity platform — something Cupertino has been pushing hard with devices like the iPad Pro.

At this year’s WWDC, we’re expecting to see iOS 11, macOS 10.13, watchOS 4 and possibly a tvOS update. Lots of rumors also indicate Apple will debut a 10.5-inch iPad Pro, new MacBooks and a standalone Siri smart speaker to take on the Amazon Echo and Google Home devices.

Apple’s WWDC 2017 keynote kicks off Monday at 10 a.m. Pacific. As usual, Apple will be streaming the event. You can follow all the action here on Cult of Macour WWDC liveblog will serve up info and analysis in real time as Apple unveils its latest, greatest software and hardware.

Maybe? Or it could be a replacement for iCloud Drive app.

    It definitely needs it

I still tend to find there isn’t a need. The hangup in competitive software is still going to be that developers don’t work to bring desktop features to the iPad software they make. Where new windows devices can simply use any legacy windows software. I don’t have a problem with the files being managed by the OS and transferring them between apps the way it is already set up. Why should I need to organize them when the software can do it better.

“Multitasking, split-screen, keyboard, now finally a native file system..keep going iOS! You’re getting so much closer to mimicking full OS’s that have been doing all this for decades! Just need to add mouse support, network / drive support, native printers, multiple screens in extend mode, and THEN you’ll be REALLY close. Maybe in 3 or 4 years.”

Sorry for the sarcasm but I don’t know how anyone can take this any other way, and it just annoys me that people are willing to wait for a device to play so obvious a game of catch-up, because, loyalty.

And finally apple brings something that’s very useful and most wanted feature
