Demand for the new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar is so strong that even Apple was apparently surprised by the orders.
According to a new report, Apple has boosted supply chain orders for the new laptops after “not initially [being] very aggressive.”
After a firestorm of complaints about the new MacBook Pro’s giant price tag and lack of innovation, the laptops are creeping closer to shipping.
The report suggests that some of Apple’s reservations early on were based on concerns about whether it could feasibly ship large numbers of MacBooks.

Apple is said to have delayed the new MacBook Pro’s introduction by one quarter due to problems with the computer’s refreshed hinges, battery and keyboard.
However, as with the new iPhone 7, Apple may have been surprised by demand for the new laptop computer — and quickly reacted to address demand.
Thanks to the rise in orders, MacBook shipments are reportedly set to hit 15 million units this year, and to stay at that level in 2017.
Given that next year is also expected to see Apple’s biggest iPhone refresh since 2014’s iPhone 6, 2017 could turn out to be a great year for Apple.
