Samsung no doubt hoped its Galaxy Note 7 nightmares would be over when it completed its costly recall and reissue of the next-gen smartphones, after the first batch of units were reported as bursting into flames — and even torching one family’s Jeep.
Unfortunately, it seems that problems linger, as one Chinese tech worker found out this week.
Twenty-five-year-old Hui Renjie says he ordered his Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on Sunday and had it delivered the same day. However, when he charged it overnight, it began to pump out black smoke and subsequently burst into flames.
“We are currently contacting the customer and will conduct a thorough examination of the device in question once we receive it,” Samsung said in a statement.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about possible problems for newer Note 7 handsets. Yesterday, there were reports stating that replacement units quickly overheat and lose battery power. In the aftermath, a Samsung rep noted that the issues were “isolated cases” and “completely unrelated to batteries.”
Samsung allegedly rushed development of its Note 7 in an attempt to gain a competitive edge against the iPhone 7, which it predicted was going to disappoint in terms of its new features.
Well, we guess we know which feature Apple won’t be looking to copy for next year’s iPhone 8!
Edit: According to CNN, Chinese Galaxy Note 7 handsets may have been left out of Samsung’s original recall because their batteries came from a different supplier to the supposedly dangerous ones. Guess a new working theory is needed…

LOL!!!!!! Swinesung RUSHED the replacements!!
I usually get paid approximately 6-8 thousand bucks /a month for freelancing at home. Those who are ready to finish easy computer-based tasks for 2-5 hours daily from ease of your home and get valuable salary in the same time… This is ideal for you… KORTA.NU/NDe
Just like Apple Watch let you auto-login into your Mac, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 let you auto- burn your Mac.
Never ever come close with your Mac to any Samsung device.
SloppySung can’t catch a break
If true, this is not great for Samsung, but why are CoM and CNN the only ones reporting on this? Nothing on any of the other tech blogs I read regularly, which is odd. Maybe we don’t have the whole story yet?
Because they couldn’t verify if it was true. It may be true, but the responsible thing is to verify it. The phone isn’t going anywhere.
I don’t have an opinion about this one way or another except that phone companies should be required to make the batteries easily replaceable; however, it’s odd that on different sites the burn marks are in totally different place on the phone. I’m sure we will have more info soon.
After reading further, it appears this is NOT a recalled and replaced device, but rather one of the Chinese models originally determined to be safe. So even if it is legit, it’s not a part of the recall.
I’m the last person to consider myself a Samsung apologist. I am all in with Apple products, but this just seems like sloppy reporting on CoM (and to a lesser extent, CNN)’s part.
I think one of the problems is that News organizations don’t check whether anything is true anymore. So if there is a product danger, or recall, they add to the confusion. If there is a problem with this different version of the battery, then the public needs accurate information. No battery of this type is completely safe….
Sloppy reporting on CoM’s part ? Oh buddy… CoM is The Sun of tech blogs. They don’t report anything and haven’t for quite a while. This is simply a fanboy oriented flame-war themed blog written by pseudo ‘journalists’…
I lost respect for this site a while ago, with Killian Bell leading the way. Such a shame he wrotes for Technobuffalo now as well – another good website on the way to fanboy haven…
Note 5 on the photo. Someone is trying really hard…
Obviously it’s the Note 7 blue coral.
actually the charging port for the note 7 is next to the button, not on top of the phone. I’m looking right at my note 7 as I type this =]
Yes, you are right. But the phone is the Note 7. I’m also typing this with my Note 7 blue :D
Because it isn’t true! The replacement Note 7 won’t hit the floors until October 28.
The replacement Note 7’s came in stock in the US a week ago…
No they didn’t… Not to all carriers.
Interesting… considering this isn’t the first “isolated” case apparently. There are also reports of “safe” Note 7 devices in China going up in flames as well. I’m thinking there is more to this issue… perhaps with fast charging, etc.
I see recall number 2 coming. Maybe Samsung should stop rushing there product.
If you look at the photos on different sites you will see that the burn marks are in different places.
hanks for the laugh! You gotta love technology…..
Design by Kelso? BURN!!!!!!!!!!!!
He was obviously sold old stock. Why is this newsworthy.
That’s Note 5 on the photo, not 7! Great jurnalism…
No its not.. The 7 has the microphone whole in between the charging port and speaker holes.. same as the phone in the pic. the note 5 has the microphone whole next to the antenna band.
Note 7 doesn’t come with that color variation. If its blue then the frame should be gold. It a note 5.
But can clearly see the microphone whole is in the place it should be on a note 7. You shouldn’t base it off of color because the color isn’t as accurate as physical details lol. Also the bezel is more rounded to instead of the note 5’s round but flatter bezel..
one clear indicator is where the charging port is, on the note 7 it’s right next to the button NOT on top of the phone.
You can’t even see the tiny microphone hole in the pictuee haha. Nice try. And who charges their phone on top of their keyboard. Clearly an old phone made to burn so they can get a new laptop. And it’s China. POS Apple fanboys site grasping at any “Note 7” news since the IPhone 7 was a let down. Even a burned Note takes the Iphones spotlight haha.
You can’t see the wholes
Obviously it’s the Note 7 blue coral. I have one and the color changes in different angles.
obviously it’s not since the note 7 doesn’t have it’s charging port on top of the phone as pictured above. its on the bottom next to the button on the note 7
Yes, the charger is not the Note 7 one, but the phone is the Note 7. I have a Note 7 blue coral and the one in the picture is exactly the same as mine. May be he charged the phone with other Samsung charger
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaa….
The funny part is there are now reports coming out saying a large percentage of the first round of Note 7 explosions were fake or false. Could just be more if the same.
And now there are reports coming out saying that the reports that saying the first round of Note 7 were fake were fake. Go figures.
This article is a complete and misleading lie! The REPLACEMENT Samsung Galaxy Note 7 won’t
return for sale until October 28. Therefore, it’s impossible that you’ve received the REPLACEMENT Note 7. If you have anything, it’s the recalled unit with battery issues.
The Note 7s in China are not recalled because they are using the “safe” battery. But six “safe” Note 7s were exploded in China in the past 20 days. Reported by mainstream media in China,
I got my replacement on the 26th Sept. It’s got the green battery logo and the new mark on the box label. I’m in Australia though so maybe we got ours early.
I have already lost interest in Note 7 and definitey won’t buy one, but At this point people will be releasing tons of stories like that, most of them probably fake…
An exploding note 7 is still better then the iPhone 7 …… Apple is killing me
This is clearly a false story. What kind of Android user would own a Mac? If you’re any kind of self respecting human being, you own a real PC laptop. Period. Nothing else is needed.
So they expect us to believe that a “s00per creative” mac user bought a Note 7 ? LMFAO. Nope.
crApple and all the iDiot Devices are for the metrosexual crowd.

Nicht witzig!
After the update to check issues with the battery (limit to 80% charge) my note is hot like a hell the battery temperature is about 70 C and I never see this before the update.
The Charging Port for the note 7 is on the bottom of the phone next to the button. NOT on top of the phone as in the picture above.
But this Chinese scumbag denied Samsung investigators access to his phone. Who wants to bet he shorted Samsung stock?
