If you steal from Apple, watch out. And if you steal a million bucks from Apple while working as an Apple Store employee? Prepare to go to jail.
As a result of an internal investigation, an Apple Store employee in New York is being charged with grand larceny for purchasing $997,000 worth of gift cards using fake debit and credit cards.
He’d then sell them to a third-party at much reduced rates, in the hopes of raking in a profit. (As an aside, that’s ironic, since the alleged criminal mastermind’s name is Ruben Profit. No joke.)
Not that he made much of one: he apparently sold them for about 1/10th of what they were worth. In other words, he stole a million dollars from Apple to rake in about a hundred grand. Not bad, but not worth going to prison for.
According to a report from NBC, Profit has been working for Apple since December 2013, and conducted his scam out of Apple’s Queens Center Mall location.
If convicted, Profit could go to prison for up to 15 years, getting out just in time for the debut of the iPhone 14.

I guess technically both terms could be used.
I’ve lived near Queens Center Mall all my life, I even attended their Grand Opening, How was Profit selling gift cards for one/third their value and never approached me to buy one? Damme Ruben.. what were you thinking? not to mention how did a million dollar gift card scam occur in Queens Center Mall? This store’s only been open for about 3 or 4 months…

Will Apple be retroactively revoking those gift cards, based on some non-resale clause in EULA?
