There’s good news and bad news for Beats Music and future Apple Music users alike. Apple has confirmed that the new music service will arrive for Sonos apps and speakers, but unfortunately not right away. It turns out integration won’t be ready in time for the big launch tomorrow, June 30, but the two companies are working together to bring Apple Music to Sonos as soon as possible.

The news first came in the form of a tweet, when a Twitter user mentioned that Apple Music team member Ian Rogers should try to persuade the team to essentially add Sonos support on the list of to-dos. Rogers replied that it’s in the works.

Shortly after, Apple confirmed in a statement to BuzzFeed that the two companies are “working together to make Apple Music available on Sonos before the end of the year.”

Despite the ongoing efforts for integration, the news probably doesn’t enthuse many Beats Music users. Since Beats Music is being killed off as Apple launches Apple Music, subscribers are going to have to put their Sonos listening on hold. Beats Music supports Sonos, but out of the gate, Apple Music will not.

If you’re unfamiliar with Sonos, it’s a product and service combination with a set of smart speakers and the Sonos app for wirelessly broadcasting music to play through them. The app supports a number of music and streaming services so you can combine your entire music library into one. For the time being, users of both Apple Music (or Beats Music) and Sonos are going to be hanging in limbo.

Apple Music makes its debut tomorrow at 8 a.m. PT or 11 a.m. ET. Don’t forget, the first three months are free so it’s worth signing up right at launch. And yes, you’ll be able to listen to Taylor Swift.

And that’s why I’m sticking with Spotify.

We still don’t have Spotify Radio on Sonos either … promised … still waiting

      • Spotify Radio in the Android beta app now and should be coming to iOS soon. Sign up for the beta program for early access, though to be warned, updates are frequent and annoying.

Do yourself a favor and try another service. Spotify’s integration with Sonos is utterly pathetic in comparison with other options like Rdio and Google Play Music. Hopefully Apple Music’s integration will be as good if not better than Rdio but we will have to wait and see.

Sonos still hasn’t worked with Google to allow my Play 5 to stream YouTube. People have requested this for years. Also, if they are going to cozy up more with Apple, ask them to allow drm songs to stream over Sonos as well. It’s ridiculous that AC/DC the complete collection cannot be streamed on Sonos devices.

If you have sonos connected to your TV you can connect your Apple TV to Apple Music and then stream that to all your other sonos speakers using the app. Clunky? Yes. But most of the apps involved with Sonos are, so no big deal.
