Apple is set to open its first office in the UK’s innovation capital Cambridge in the next couple of weeks, according to a new report.
The address of the office — which will serve as an R&D lab — is the centrally-located 90 Hills Road, not far from the offices of streaming music rival Spotify. In addition to a healthy startup scene, other major tech companies with offices in Cambridge include leading microprocessor manufacturer ARM, Microsoft, and others.
Apple will reportedly employ around 20 staff in its new office, although it is possible that they could fit up to 40 in the space available.
90 Hills Road is a standalone office building comprising three storeys adding up to a total of 9,030 square feet. The lower ground floor consists of secure and gated car and cycle parking, toilet, shower, changing facilities, and plant spaces. The office is located in the hub of Cambridge’s business district.
Despite continuing investigations into Apple’s tax practices in the UK — which have previously seen it pay zero corporate tax — the country’s government is said to have been working “for the best part of 25 years” to try and establish an increased Apple presence in the country.
Apple already has a corporate office in London.
