China’s biggest carriers spill specs for ‘iPhone Air’ and ‘iPhone Pro’

Days after China Mobile, aka the world’s largest mobile carrier, started taking preorders for the iPhone 6, rivals China Telecom and China Unicom (the second- and third-largest carriers in the country) have pointed out that they too will be selling Apple’s eagerly anticipated next-gen handset.

Referring to the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 as the “iPhone Air” and the 5.5-inch variant as the “iPhone Pro,” China Unicom has put up a pricing list for the devices, showing how cost will vary according to storage capacity and form factor.

China Telecom, meanwhile, has gone even further by matching China Mobile with its own preorder page (complete with weirdly pixelated logo), describing what it thinks the spec will be for the iPhone 6.

These include an upgraded 3-megapixel front camera, better Touch ID, powerful quad-core A8 chip and longer-lasting 2,100 mAh battery. After users click through for reservation, they are also able to choose between the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch “phablet” iPhone 6.

While China Telecom plays it pretty safe, it’s worth noting that the company is using what appear to be fan-made renders of the iPhone 6 in its advertising — which may not exactly suggest the most inside information available.

Better not start as 16GB for the base model. Old excuse was price. 32GB now doesn’t cost more than $10. Fed up with paying an extra $100 for 32GB model.

They’re gonna to start with 16GB and ends with 128GB (Just like the iPad Air). I don’t think they’re planning to drop 16GB because of the pricing which may get higher if they push 32GB model as standard and also 32GB will not be very much useful for an average user…

I believe the iPhone 5S will still have as availability after iPhone 6 is launched but iPhone 5S will have 8GB.

I sure am hoping that 4.7″ with 416 DPI holds true. If they gimp the 4.7″ and give the 5.5″ a huge bump in resolution I’m going to be irritated. We don’t all want a giant phone.

    • Albert says:

They should have gone QHD for all of the models seriously. They would just have to 4x the pixel of previous apps, which is awesome for developers and users.

Complete gimmick, no point if you won’t see any more detail, why? Because you simply can’t see any more detail or the UI at that density.

      • Alex Blaha says:

Agree with eXoguti093, I wish for a better quality display in the area of colour and contrast, the resolution has already hit its limit, it’s not all about resolution, y’know.

16GB as a base model in 2014? LOL!

Awe, you seem a bit hostile.

      • Andrew says:

No, you do seem a bit hostile. What am I wrong about, exactly? Your replies make absolutely no sense, especially since I have nothing to be “wrong” about. I never mentioned anything that could be perceived as correct or incorrect.

      • JayF says:

16 gb is an absolute joke for a new phone!!!! Because I want the new iphone and don’t want to pay the extra $100 for space, doesn’t mean it’s any less of a profit gimmick. (Very anti-android)

      • jasonstweeting says:

Ok, I enjoy my apple products too, but you are being an annoying fan boy. 16GB is NOT enough. Strong sales doesn’t equate to being enough, I would say it’s more because of affordability. Imagine buying that 16GB, then you dl your apps, music, etc. Now record a nice video or two 30 days later. Out of space?! Now the 16GB owner is SOL while still contributing to those strong sales.

      • GadgetCanada1 says:

I should have realized everybody’s usage of their iPhone is exactly like yours. Hence we should all pay more so the minimum storage is 32GB instead of you simply buying a higher capacity model

      • jasonstweeting says:

Ahh I now understand what you think I am saying. I do not want to get rid of the 16GB model so that we can all pay $300 (+2yr commitment) for the 32GB version. I want apple to get rid of the 16GB model and make 32GB the base $200 model. Going from 16GB to 32GB should be relatively cheap! What I don’t understand is why someone would complain about getting more memory for the same amount of money.

This issue is a serious concern for myself and many of my friends and family. With an android that has a microsd slot, I can buy a 128GB for ~$50. Why the heck should I pay an extra $100 to get a lousy extra 16GB? I hope the iphone 6 will have something like: 32GB $200, 64GB $300, 128GB $400. Is that really too much to ask for??

      • TeeJay1100 says:

I’ve been trying to understand this for years: Why the heck should I pay an extra $100 to get a lousy extra 16gb? You have to understand Apple’s profit margin per phone they sell. The more you pay to get a iphone higher than 16gb, the more profit they get when in reality the storage is costing them little to nothing. It’s all about their profits!! It’s such a shame because the consumer get shafted every time. I’m glad you noticed others Micro SD slot prices. 128Gb for $50 and sometimes it’s cheaper than that.

    • TeeJay1100 says:

Calm down. It’s only a phone. Something tangible that does not mean nothing. Why are you so serious over nothing?? No one cares about sales but Apple, their banks, and shareholders!!

      • TeeJay1100 says:

What is your point? Because you obviously have nothing to say other than following me around in these threads raising aimless questions.

I’ve concluded that this person is a troll and should not be fed anymore. I contributed to the discussion and it turns out my point of view is meaningless according to this trolls own words. Let’s move on and look forward to and complain about tomorrow’s announcement.

Man, these Chinese folks are just asking for apple’s wrath. Just posting fake photos and taking pre-orders. It’s so common for Chinese businesses to deceive customers.

  6. Brandon Franklin says:

Awsome the 5.5 rumor seems more legit everyday. And what’s with everyone getting butthurt about the possible upgraded specs of the 5.5? If they don’t utilize the extra space what’s the point of making it? Personally I hope it has extended features in the same vein as the SG note. Not necessarily the same features just more capabilities ala apples brain trust and the extra screen and chassis real estate

  7. DJBabyBuster says:

I hope this is wrong, because its freakin 2014, I want 128GB builtin memory already.

  8. JBinCalifornia says:

    …annnnd cue WWIII.
